Mayo at MLB isn't right. He racked up a shitload of tackles on a subpar D, but wasn't very good in coverage. Willis, R. Lewis, Timmons, HARRIS, Urlacher, Kevin Burnett and Derrick Johnson had better seasons imo.
huh? please go on....it's because he doesn't have any INTs right? cornerbacks suck if they don't get picks....
What do you mean by that? The PFW/PFWA (Pro Football Weekly and the Professional Football Writers of America) All-Pro awards are as legit as any other All-Pro awards. I will assume you think the Associated Press All-Pro team is more legit. Well, it's not. The Associated Press does a better job of advertising their team, but many people feel the PFW/PFWA team is actually better. The Associated Press actually names 12 players on offense and 12 on defense whereas the PFW/PFWA team only has 11 players on offense and 11 on defense.
Even though the AP and PFWA choices almost always coincide I feel like the PFWA always gives the edge to the best NAME instead of the actual best PERFORMER that year.
You may think that the PFW/PFWA does a better job of selecting the team and I'm not arguing that point, but the AP all pro team is the team that is recognized as the official NFL all-pro team. Per wikipedia: This All-pro team began in 1966 and is still released each year. Now, it is released in Pro Football Weekly. It is a poll of the members of the Pro Football Writers Association and is considered a "press poll". In the case with the press polls, they are simply a poll of writers who are asked to select the top players at each position on a football squad.
Thanks for responding. I don't know. To me, I never really noticed any major differences by the two services as far as one selecting more "name" players than the other. The main difference is that one selects 24 scrimmage players and the other selects 22. The Troy Polamalu and Jerod Mayo selections here can be argued. The other choices seem very solid to me.
There is no one official NFL all-pro team. The NFL recognizes both the AP and PFW/PFWA teams and they place both in the official league record book. The league also combines the two teams to create an All-NFL team. Players who get named to at least one of the AP and PFW/PFWA teams then get placed on the All-NFL team.
