I am not going to tell him "what to say"; you're right, it's his opinion, he's a columnist and he gets paid to write it... My opinion is, he's wrong, and I provided my evidence as to why I feel the thesis of his column is incorrect. So why are you telling me I can't have my opinion about his opinion? Are there facts anywhere here? Probably just that the guy was a complete scumbag to use the Binkley/Sanchez story at all. You're assessment/opinion of Sanchez is a fair one, and has a lot of merit. One could argue, however, that Tom Brady, the first two years of his career was asked to do the same thing, and won for the same reasons. Now: you present the evidence why you think I am wrong. This is how this works see?
LOL, "idiot proof," huh? I guess you're just going to ignore the 10% (OK, 0.9%, but let's round off) difference in their completion percentages then. That's not a small number for that stat, and accuracy seems to be one of Sanchez's recurring issues. Brady was a lot more consistent in his second season (first year starting) than Sanchez was in his second full year as a starter. It's fairly close, but it's not like their performances are dead-on. You're very sensitive about this Sanchez criticism. I didn't say he sucked... in fact, in my very last post, I explained in pretty good detail that I don't think anyone can pass judgment on him just yet. Sometimes he looks great, sometimes he looks like he was handed the playbook 10 minutes before kickoff. It's not a slam, it's just an honest observation and I've seen enough Jets fans bash him plenty on this site this season to know I'm not just making this shit up. At times, he's a liability to the Jets. Brady was rarely a liability early on in his career. Specifically, the way Sanchez's passes were sailing high in the first half Saturday night is very dangerous. If he does that again on Sunday, the Patriots will pick off at least two of them. This isn't an attack dude... just telling you what I see.
FTR, I don't agree with Callahan. See a few posts back. I can't stand the guy anyway, and I think passing judgment on Sanchez at this point in his career is premature at best.
How disgraceful is it for this piece to lead with the whole Aiden Binkley situation? If you're going to write a piece bashing Sanchez and the Jets, why would you even go down that road? Truly classless.
"Every decade or so, a Trent Dilfer or a Mark Rypien will lead his team to the championship, but as a rule, you need a Brady, a Drew Brees, a Roethlisberger, a quarterback who can stand up under pressure and win a playoff game or two for you. Sanchez can’t do that."
Explain how. Indy's pass defence is better than the patriots. Indy picked off 1. If he throws the same against NE they probably have no picks, maybe they have 1. I'm sick of hearing the Jets have to score x number of points to have a chance at winning [insert rediculously high number for x]. The Jets have to score 1 point to have a chance and winning. Period. The reality is we COULD shutout the patriots. Am I saying its likely, no, but there is certainly a chance. Way worse defencses than ours have shutout other teams. Forget about Sanchez, let brad smith play the whole game with an injured groin. If our D lives up to its potential, we win. The Patriots are going to have to figure out a way to score points to have any chance of winning. Thats a fact.
You know what, you win. Even though Sanchez had a much lower passer rating and completion percentage, even though it's much easier to pass in the NFL today than it was nine years ago, even though the Jets have much better offensive talent than the Pats did in 2001, even though Sanchez had had the benefit of starting for an extra season, Sanchez is way better than Brady was as a second year player
http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/givetake/sort/takeInterceptions/position/defense/seasontype/2/league/afc/order/false The Patriots had 24 INTs on the season. The Colts had 10. Maybe you're looking at yards allowed, which is only a semi-important stat in most cases. A lot of the rest of this is, no offense, a little crazy. I don't know who'll win, and the Jets could very well pull it out, but the odds of shutting the Patriots out is not good. They've averaged over 30 points/game this season. I don't know if you were serious about your Brad Smith comment, but I hope not. And this: "The Patriots are going to have to figure out a way to score points to have any chance of winning. That's a fact." Um... no comment. hmy:
That's funny, I remember tons of Patriots fans saying how much better of a season Deion Sanders had in the 90s than Revis in 2009.
Good for them. You'd really have to study the shit out of it to figure out who was better, 90s Deion or 2009 Revis-both were amazing. Revis probably gets some extra credit for playing in a league where he can't be as physical in pass defense. Revis is also way, way better in run support. Sanders was pretty good in the return game though.
I'm a 20-year Pats fan. I lurk on here on and off because it's entertaining. I've never felt compelled to chime in until now. First, a correction. Callahan writes for the Herald. I believe. Unless he's switched papers. I would doubt it. Now my point. Any Pats fan serving as apologist for Callahan on this thread should be ashamed. Not only is Callahan not a good writer, he's now officially worse than a whore. Ask yourselves how you would feel if you were that boy's parents. Callahan could have taken an infinite number of different approaches to making his essential point. Stooping that low is disgusting and indefensible. It makes me ashamed. It should make all of us ashamed. Arguing this thread on the "merits" of Callahan's critique of Sanchez's playing is obviously not the point here. The point is how vile, how horrific his approach is. Pretending not to get that point is transparent bullshit. But I will say this... I thank Callahan for making me feel better if the Patriots lose. Because while before I could not imagine any silver-lining in a loss to the J-E-T-S, you can guaran-damn-tee, that if the Jets prevail against the Pats, I'll be rooting for them to take it all the way. And I'll be hoping that Sanchez wins the Super Bowl MVP. I have only one other thing to do on this board before I go silent. Then it's peace out. In the end, you gotta love a rivalry like this. It gets the blood going. It's what football should be. Hope it's a great game.
Callahan is a well known whore, but I think Callahan sort of has a fair point amid all the frothing bs. Sanchez will need to play a good game for the Jets to keep things close.
Thanks Platypus for being a beacon of class in a sea of shit talk up there in beantown. You are 100% correct about Callahan's article.
Hey Genius! That goes for BOTH qb's!!!! If Brady shits the bed, we have a MUCH better chance of winning since the Pats don't flex a run game like we have.
Have you checked the whole thread? At least half of us already hate Callahan and think he's a scumbag. Don't let your hate get in the way of your objectivity. We've been, for the most part, with you guys on this one.
