Yep you are right, the onus should be on the tackler, which is why Brackett should not be suspended. The guy trying to make the tackle got blasted on was laying on the ground after getting blocked by Brackett. Brackett wasn't trying to tackle anyone, it's a block, this dumbass rule is just another knee jerk reaction to the Hines Ward play a few year ago. And they didn't call helmet to helmet so it didn't matter that he didn't use his chest or hands. Please tell me all Jets fans are as dumb as you.

Okay, maybe I exagerrated. But I'd love for you to explain to me why he is whatever you think he is.

He isn't stout against the run, struggles to shed blocks, he's undersized and outside of last year I can't remember a single year the where anyone in the Indy LB corps had any impact. I'd assume his speed makes him good in coverage, but that's never a given either.

    Let's hear it.

I don't disagree with that first part. But the key to it seems to be the head-to-head contact. Or at leading with the head. There's no real question about that part with Brackett's hit. I think most reasonable Indy fans on Colts boards would even agree, but most of them are working with Commodore 64's and dial-up connections, so having any sort of sensible discussion in real-time is very frustrating.

Meh, you know what I meant. How can Amato possibly take responsibility for getting hit directly with a helmet from the side when he wasn't even close to making a play?

Erm..... yes it does. Did you look at the definition of an illegal blindside block? Are you arguing that he shouldn't have been penalised on the field for the illegal blindside block, or are you saying that he shouldn't be retrospectively punished for the H2H on a defenseless player? Do you even know, or is your argument entirely "he's a Colt and they should never be penalised"?

No, they aren't, which kind of fucks you up as you're struggling to make a cohesive or sensible argument to one as thick as me. I suggest you don't take on the big boys.

I agree, there is a penalty because of the helmet-to-helmet contact. I don't think Brackett's intent was to hit him with the helmet, but intent doesn't matter. My guess though is that Amato doesn't lower his head, Brackett's hit would be have been a shoulder shot to the body and legal.

No, i don't think this hit is worthy of a suspension but i do think that it was an unnecessary hit and is deserving of a fine. Bracket should have just pushed him down instead of laying the wood but it's a divisional match up and sometimes emotions get the best of the players. and to "peytonmanning18" is it really necessary to try to insult jets fans just cause they have a different opinion as you? its just making yourself look dumb

Have you ever seen the Colts defense?
    They are ALL undersized.

According to NFL.com, Brackett is 29th in linebacker combined stats for the season. That's including missing 4 weeks. And thats ALL linebackers, not just middle linebackers.
Not to bad for an undersized hack, huh?
I would post the link but I dont have 50 posts yet. Can I assume you can find this on your own?

Well, I figured if he could, he wouldn't have made such a dumbass statement.
Sometimes it's good to look up info before spewing diarrhea all over the place.

Coincidentally, the Colts defense is subpar. Maybe they should get bigger?

You think I care about how many tackles (an unofficial stat), and points he registered in some stupid formula at NFL.com? There's more to the game than stats, and it's no surprise the Colts D has been notoriously lackluster the past decade with this little bastard patrolling the middle of the field.

The Colts have devoted the most of their cap space to their star players, if they could upgrade their LB corps they would and you know this is the case. They had to let D Thornton walk because they couldn't pay him, remember?

to be fair he has been playing pretty well the last couple of games but overall i dont think he's that great considering the colts defense as a whole(even the rookies) have been flying to the ball in the RUN game. i'm still tired of us playing like shit against the pass and if freeney and/or mathis dont get pressure its usually a long day for the defense. I think brackett is avg at best but he fits our d (which consist of undersized guys) so its alright.

Yeah and there's only so many All-Pros you can have one on roster..... Your team has top tier talent in a bunch of other areas, but not at linebacker, regardless of what this dingus is trying to tell me.

No, my television has given me substance, Brackett is a JAG.

That undersized hack's name is right there underneath his MVP trophy, a trophy you don't get for being the 29th ranked LB at NFL.com.

    This is dumb..

Fine him, yes. It is the standard. You don't suspend him though.

This is football. He made a football play. That was not "defenseless", simply because the guy was on the field. It's not like Brackett ran over to the oposing sideline and straight speared someone in the face with his helmet. That would be defenseless.

At some point, you have to play the game. This is football and everyone knows the risk involved. It is up to the player to be AWARE of HIS surroundings. The guy was just doing the motions, casually jogging, la-dee-da.. He is getting paid to play this game, he should of had his head in the game. He paid for it. It's football, treat it as such.

YES, He's a recidivist & has failed to learn from his previous illegal acts. EVERY action of his on this play is what the NFL has specifically described in a step by step process of what would constitute a suspendible offense.

You 100% correct. Brackett was coming in lower, but Amato instinctively lowers his level to take the hit. The result is head to head. If Amato doesn't lower his level, thus not altering his position some, does Brackett's helmet end up on the side of Amato?

Shouldn't be a suspension here. There's no precedent for it. We've seen worse hits this year (including Merriweather's on Heap) that were as bad or worse and resulted in fines, not suspensions.

Brackett is a repeat offender though.....that has to be taken into consideration.

I'm not saying Brackett should be suspended....just saying that the decision isn't as clear cut as you make it out to be.
