I guess you didn't read what the part in bold said? He'll end up with close to 100 tackles if he plays, but it's more about the intangibles.
I'd say either one is a good option, Bart is a leader on the squad and his swagger is only matched by few.
Moore, Smith, and Pouha were more deserving. That's not to say Scott's not a pro-bowler, but those three have had more of an impact all season.
Bart Scott, stats aside has had himself a hell of a season IMO, he's the "missile" and the key part in stopping the run, that man puts everything he has into that
Most Ted linebackers don't make the Pro Bowl because you don't get flashy stats bashing the brains out of the lead blocker.
Scott does a great job of filling gaps and taking blockers head-on.... He plays the unhearalded "thumper" role in our 3-4, and is part of the reason Harris can fly around the ball as much as he does. Definitely underrated.... and I like that list.
I'll go as far as to say Scott has been better than Harris this year IN HIS ROLE, which is to take on blockers to free up Harris. Harris is a good LB, but I just don't think he's great. He doesn't have the sideline to sideline speed to be an elite LB and gets caught up in traffic too much.
Exactly.. people who think Bart Scott is overrated are morons. He is the key component to our great run defense. He frees up Harris to run around and make all the plays, just like he used to do for Ray Lewis.
There's a subtle but important difference between overrated and overpriced. There's no doubt he's good at what he does, but are you really saying he's worth franchise money?
Rex had to sacrifice price to bring in guys that knew his system to get the existing players up to speed. While you can't in any way use Scott's stats to justify the price the Jets paid, having them go from Mangini's patented turtle defense to top ranked defense in the league was, to me, worth the price paid to both Leonhard and Scott. Not to mention, when you get in a bidding contest with a player's previous team, you always, always end up paying too much.
He's getting paid a lot but he's been a complete force on the field and a major presence in the locker room. His contract appears justified when you consider what we're paying Pace and BT, two guys who've been complete failures from passrushing standpoints.
