I love Cotch but he's not a gamebreaker. It would suck to see him go but of the 3 he's probably the most replaceable.

Holmes is a dynamic gamebreaker and Braylon is a big fast guy. They complement each other well.

In a perfect world we keep all 3

Yeah, like I said I love the guy but I wouldn't fault the Jets if they made a business decision to keep Edwards and Holmes. Of course, one could classify giving 2 knuckleheads long term deals as an unwise business decision.

Here's to no salary cap in the NFL!

Let's see, in Madden I mainly use Holmes deep and on slants. Edwards is good in the red zone and any routes that require size. Cotchery is my 3rd down guy in the slot. Keller is my all-around mismatch that I can throw to whenever I want. Too bad it's not that simple in real life...

it depends on what it does to overall finances of course, BUT to me, I like EDwards and Cotchery. I think they are closer to what I picture Jets football. Santonio is more Giants football.

No matter what you do the Patriots will pick him up and he'll be the greatest receiver in the history of the NFL.

If you have to choose two, Edwards and Holmes are the obvius decission, but Cotchery for me has green blood so i would keep him.

Cotchery is under contract for I believe two more years. They are not just going to cut him.

He makes nearly $4 million in 2011 and 2012.

With all the players we have to sign who knows what's going to happen.

Perhaps a restructuring, but to cut him would be a cap hit wouldn't it? I think that would be counterproductive if you are trying to sign other players.

    Just checked on nyjetscap.com

    Cutting Cotchery would save $458,334

I would still mean 3,333,332 in dead money against the cap.

In other words, the only solution is a restructering, cutting him makes zero sense.

They can save about 450k by cutting him. If he were willing I assume they could free up a little cash by extending his contract although that gets you in the position of having him take up cap space in 2012 and beyond, and you might not want that. He's a pretty big hit (4 million) for the caliber of player he is.

Read my quote above, they would still be on the hook for 3.3 million instead of 3.7 million. He is not getting cut.

I agree, we're saying the same thing. I'm pretty sure he's a good restructuring candidate though.

    That's just the 2011 money, in 2012 we'd save $2.3 million.

In the end I think he'll be a Jet anyway.

True but the lead of this thread is the fact that both Holmes and Edwards have to be resigned before 2011 if they are to be kept. So the immediate ramifications are the problem, not 2012.

Have you heard of the salary cap?

If they drop Cotchery the only have enough scratch to replace him with a rookie free agent type. Enjoy Patrick Turner as your third wideout.
