From yahoo: Would clinch a playoff berth with a win/tie at the Bears or Colts loss/tie or Jaguars loss/tie or both Chiefs loss and Chargers win/tie. Would clinch the AFC East, first-round bye and home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs with two wins and two Patriots losses and either a Ravens loss or two Steelers wins.
The GB game had zero effect. If the Pats were 12-4 with a Packers loss, vs a 12-4 Jets, tie breakers would be: 1. Head-to-Head (1-1, tie) 2. Division Record (4-2 vs. 4-2, tie) 3. Conference Record (9-3 vs. 9-3 tie) 4. Common Games (9-3 vs. 9-3 tie) 5. Strength of Victory This is where we lose and lose terribly. Case 1 - NE loses to GB and Miami We would beat the same opponents: Cincy, Minn, Pitt, Det and Chi and Buff we would have these victories: Denver Cleveland Houston vs. San Diego Indianapolis Baltimore So the combined wins of Denver (3), Cleveland (5) and Houston (5) would have to beat SD (8), Indianapolis (8) and Baltimore (10). This is impossible since there are only 6 games left and the gap 26 to 13 is too large to overcome. Case 2: NE loses to GB and Buff We would beat the same opponents: Cincy, Minn, Pitt, Det and Chi we would have these victories: Denver Cleveland Houston Buffalo vs. San Diego Indianapolis Baltimore Miami This is even worse than before. The combined wins of Denver (3), Cleveland (5), Houston (5) and Buffalo (4) would have to beat SD (8), Indianapolis (8), Baltimore (10) and Miami (7). This is impossible since there are only 8 games left and the gap 33 to 17 is too large to overcome. Either way, we lose the strength of victory by a large margin. In other words, even if NE had lost to GB last night, they'd still need to lose BOTH other games (Mia and Buff) for the Jets to overtake them in the division. But that's the case now when they've won. So the game didn't matter.
Somebody should break Mccarthy's neck for kicking a FG from the goddamn 1 yard line last night to go up 27-21 with 12 minutes left ... as if that's a huge difference from being up 24-21 worst case, with NE backed up on their 1 yard line. No point in trying to go up 10 points there. Instead, why not keep it at one score and hope we can keep Brady and the best offense in football from scoring the rest of the game. No balls. Cost GB the game, and eliminated us from the division race. I hope the Giants beat them 100-0 next week.
I don't give two fucks about the Giants but we should be rooting for them to not make the playoffs, not hearing Giants fans cocky conceited mouths for the playoffs is just way too sweet.... BTW did anybody notice that all Giants fans were really quiet today:lol:
Just to be clear From nfl.com CLINCHED: The Patriots have clinched a playoff berth. They can clinch the AFC East and a first-round bye with a win or a Jets loss.
Which just might happen seeing as how a football lockout and the end of the world are pretty much synonymous in my eyes.
100% incorrect. (well, maybe not 100%, but I couldn't resist.) The game did matter for the Jets because now we need to win next weeks game. If the Pats had lost to GB, the Bears game would have been ok to lose and still leave the window open. Now if we beat the bears and the Pats win, we rest our starters vs the bills. There is still some scenario where we can not get a wild card, so we can't rest our starters agains the bills if we lose the the Bears.
i don't think NE is gonna lose 2 straight with belicheck on the hot seat. he'd be fired. im sure of it.
Lets just hope we get into the playoffs, it aint official until it's official and we are the Jets so... screw the division. Plus it's almost like I'd rather we go on the road, we seem to suck balls at home.
Ok I'll let it go ... but I'm just saying ... Why would you EVER kick a FG from the f#$king ONE YARD LINE unless it's to win the game or send it into overtime??? Even if you make it, you're doing the other team a favor. Just plain stupid. For the record ...The exact moment I knew I wanted Mangini out of here was when the camera caught him mouthing the words "field goal" on the first drive of that Seattle game in 2008.
I tell you a secret.... Santa Claus is not real. In my opinion only a christmas miracle can bring a patriots two looses, but you now miracles exits. Better to win this week, and rest in week 17 and lets think in the wildcard opponent.
