We have a running game that is struggling and, as a result, a QB that is being put in difficult situations. This funk is not the fault of Sanchez, but falls on the CS for putting him in situations where it is difficult for him to succeed. That is too much for such a young QB against good defenseive teams.

One way to NOT is establish the run is to run on first down 80% of the time as was done against the Dolphins. The Jets must let Sanchez pass on first down. That is the key to the Jets offense. Think about where the strengths of this team are - Homes, Edwards, Cotchery, Keller. How does a team cover all of those players on first down in a base defense? On the other hand, any QB in the NFL throwing most of his passes on 3rd and long, as the Jets constantly force Sanchez to do, is not going to have much success. The Jets offense never puts a defense on its heels. Instead, the play calling always forces the Jets to make plays against a defense that is ready for those plays - first down runs with 8-9 in the box. Passes on 3rd and long. That has been the story in evey game that the offense has struggled going back to last season and that has to stop. Throw on first down, run on 3rd and short. That is the key to success

Also, the Jets need to call passing plays that have a greater chance for success. Besides short passes to the backs and slants, the Jets need to pass more in the middle of the field, especially with Palamulu out. These sideline passes that are thrown over and over are ridiculous - it is like throwing into double coverage because the sideline is another defender. The Jets needs to let Sanchez through to the backs more. Throw some screens to slow down the pass rush. Lastly, when it is 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 2 - run the ball. Lining up in this 4 wide shotgun on 3rd down and short is absurd. The threat of the run is completely gone, which makes playing defense that much easier.

Lastly, it is time that Greene became the 1st and 2nd down back. With the holes getting smaller because of the OL play, it is time for a more physical runner who gains yards after contact. LT should be used on 3rd downs, but on running plays he goes down with the first contact. He just does not gain yards on his own.

I agree we'll need to be unpredictable in our play calling to slow up the Steelers' pass rush.

I think we still need to run the ball, we cannot be afraid to run the ball on
2nd and 7, 3rd and 4 type of situations. Against this defense will we have over 100 yards, good chance no, but we have to keep them honest and we still need the running game to work for next week and the Bills.

We need to utilize play action on FIRST down to get Mark some confidence, I would also like to see some designed roll outs to get Mark out of the pocket, and let Mark know if he can run for 4 or 5 yards it is a success.

I think Shonn Greene has to become the feature back and get the majority of carries. I would love to see some formations and running plays with him and Conner in at the same time. It hasn't been talked about alot but TRich has seemed to have lost a step and the use of Conner has been close to invisible.

In the passing game we need to throw more down the seams and middle of the field, I am not talking 3-5 yard slants but the 10-15 yard routes (especially if Troy is out). The Jets throw way too often to the sidelines or the quick routes that Mark struggles with.

Pitt is fast at OLB but I think some misdirection plays that go outside can be successful.

-- yank LT on ALL run downs...ineffective.. SG all the way from here.. POUND
-- O line is weak....Pass sets up Run this year ...run to set up pass has put us in bad situations
--sanchez has to look off recievers because safeties knows he still locks on to 1 guy and follows them
-- learn from Bellicock!!....whers that Cumberland guy him and Keller would make O unpredictable with double tight ends look
--play calling just laughable IMO...cmon schotty wake the f*ck up

    Put Bill Callahan in charge.

Or the Jets can use the 4 receiver formation like the Pats did and force the LB's into pass coverage, the only problem with that option is that Sanchez does not have the experience.

If the Jets line up against this defense and just try to ground and pound they will end up in a lot of predictable 3 and long situations and the Steelers will kill Sanchez, I hope he is not injured today as I can see him trying to extend a play and getting hammered by Harrison or Woodley.

Steelers are stubborn and don't substitute Harrison or Woodley. They have faith they cover a man and they can. Unless its Harrison on Holmes I don't see the 4 receiver set helping us.
