http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-pennington062606&prov=yhoo&type=lgns " Even now, Pennington may already be lagging behind. In the team's final minicamp, he was given a scripted number of passes and didn't appear to be putting his normal zip on the ball. Conversely, Clemens looked solid and appeared to be getting the lion's share of instruction when players broke into positional drills. Perhaps more telling – though Mangini downplayed it – was Clemens opening the first day of minicamp with the No. 1 offense. Interestingly, it was also the first day a ravenous New York media corps was going to see Pennington play live since last season's shoulder surgery. " Pretty damn scary when they indicate that Penny didnt have his "Normal Zip" on the ball...WTF was it doing - going backwards out of his hand and smacking him in the helmet?
I don't think Charles Robinson even went to camp. This comes out conveniently after all the beat writers already chimed in on Pennington.
wtf? Why write this a week after the event? It just reads like some guy had nothing to write and was under pressure to produce something, ergo this drivel. It provides no new information, and serves no purpose. Ugh I hate it.
I wouldn't read too much into it. He's saving his strength. I'm sure he is confident that he's getting the starting role after talking with Mangini, and with everything going on in the press. Gini more than likely told him to save it so he doesnt increase the risk of further injury to his arm. He'll throw about half speed just to get the drills down, and continue to rehabilitate his shoulder. I've played football for many years and this was a lot of coaches strategies. Same in baseball too. If he already knows he's going to be starting, theres no sence in throwing out his arm and damaging his shoulder now, with 2 months left. And I'm sure Gini already knows who his starter is, and has informed them without keying the media in.
I would doubt a new coach has made any decission on the starting QB before seeing them in live action. Pennington may in fact be unable to perform in games for all any one knows? I believe him when he says it's an open competition becaues he doesn't know yet who can perform.
Have none of you guys seen that movie Rookie of the Year??? The kid breaks his arm but after it heals, he can throw fastballs faster than randy johnson and billy wagner!! Not quite as fast as Ben Sheets, but you get the picture. Anyways, granted that was baseball, im sure he could throw a football just as good. What if thats Chad this year. What if he starts throwing 80 yard bombs on the line. What if........
I'm taking anything I read in the papers until opening day as hearsay, and it could all be pursposeful behind the scenes manipulation by the CS. The cloudier the picture, the more confused the enemy. Could also be they're wheeling in some Grandpa and making him strike a pose. I'm good with that.
The only quarterback that can take us to the playoffs is a healthy Pennington. So if he isn't and someone else starts or he starts injured, we are in trouble.
Now that's funny! I guess JWWS and all the other Chaddites will mount a campaign to have this poster banned for breaking the 14th commandment: "thou shall not ever speak ill of the Chad..." :breakdance:
Of course it's funny, but man, you and your legions of poison beetles better pony up if proven wrong. OW! No stinging allowed until such time.
That first comment was really funny. Oh so wrong, but funny all the same. As far as Chad being the only QB who can lead us to the SB, perhaps you have not yet seen the film or heard the glowing praise for Clemmens. I think that is the guy who is going to be the long-term QB we have needed for so long. I don't think any spots are set yet, especially QB. Sure, Chad is taking it easy so far, but he is doing that for himself. He knows the time for him to make the push is in late August. The starting QB will probably be announced the week before the Tennessee game. What I hope to see is each QB get the chance to work with the first team in the preseason. Let it be a decision made right on the field. My hope for the opening roster is: Penny, Bollinger, Clemmens. My gut tells me: Penny, Ramsey, Clemmens. Worst case scenario: Ramsey, Clemmens, Penny.
