Well to be fair to some of the draft selections in here, Freeman McNeil wasn't that bad of a pick. Ken O'Brien was decent too, not really considering who was on the board (coke head Marino), but they never protected him.

Can I ask why everyone was mad about the McNeil selection? From what I've heard (never seen him play), I've thought he was pretty good

McNeil was the right pick. He was smooth as silk but he was very injury prone. I dont think he made it through a full season.
His best game was the Playoff game vs Cincinnati in 82. 200+ Yards on the ground.
With him, Walker and Todd all on their game, the Jets offense was a thing of beauty.

I know, maybe I'm a bad fan for cracking up every time I see it.

This clip was just featured in a list of priceless videoclips on the web by ESPN's Sports Guy, Bill Simmons, hence its newer to some people. If you've seen a thread topic that looks familar, you can always move on.

Have we ever had a great first-round draft pick since Joe Willie?

Well as far as McNeil goes, I guess some think it's an oversight because Ronnie Lott was still on the board (one of two Hall of Famers from that first round).

The guys in the crowd are all Jets fans that are angry because they felt the Jets picked the wrong player. The Jets are known for making horrible draft choices(not this year) and the fans let the management know how they feel when these choices are made.

Yeah, but at least that time we got a player to remember. There were some picks, like Cardigan and Thomas, which just felt like being robbed.

    Thanks, (and excuse my ignorance)

So there are fans that have an indepth knowledge of all the players available in the draft. Then, I assume, they have a list of players they believe should be drafted to The Jets. ....boy, that is dedication!!

Do they go to the draft and watch it live????

And that question gets asked every time. How can it not?! I don't mind seeing this thread again at all. Keeps the wounds fresh. Sometimes it's better to have someone else pick my scabs. You know, changes it up a little.

Many do, also college football is very popular in the States and over 99% of the players drafted are college football players, so many fans(including me) base their opinions of players on what they have seen in college football over the past few years. I was planning on going to the draft since it was in NY but I only had 1 other friend willing to go to the place around 3 a.m.(You have to get a wristband early to be seated for 12.a.m.). I basically always have a list of who I want and it also depends on what we need.
