No not really, Vince Young is a type of player that will play in any weather and he could run/pass do whatever. Young was a beast in COLLEGE. We dont know how he plays yet in the NFL. Hopefully he could get some throws WEEK 1.

I wish I knew what you guys expect on kickoffs. He didn't bomb them in college either, and was a concern before he was drafted.. I know, "if he's drafted in the 2nd round he should hit them out of the endzone" Well guess what, noone does that.

  4. I'm w/ ya man. It's not like Nugent was barely reaching the 25 on kickoffs! He was consistently getting it within the 5-10 yard line range. In today's NFL, combined w/ some decent hang time, that's all you can expect from an NFL kicker no matter how early he was drafted.

I think we should re-sign Tony Meola to replace Nugent because he could probably put them through the endzone. :drunk:

I did a pretty extensive analysis on Nugent last year, but that post got wiped out in the board crash. Man, that got me PO'd, because I had all the data and links to back it up.

Off the top of my head, it was something like this....

Through the first 8 weeks of last season, Nugents kick offs, while not touchbacks, were very good. He was always inside the 10, with long hang times. The Jets were in the top five in the NFL in field position after kickoffs (and that is what gets me PO'd.... I had to research that data manually). This is exactly what Westoff talked about, and expected from Miller. Then, around week nine.... he lost a full second of hang time, and about 15 yards on distance for the remainder of the season. Hard to explain. Tired leg?

As for his FG's, I just don't count the miss in KC week 1. The guy slipped on loose turf. Rookie mistake, not checking his plant foot landing area? Maybe. I also look at his misses. None were horrible, several from the 48-51 were just a bit short. On the whole, he did very well for a rookie.

So many fans like to kill a guy based on where he was drafted. That's hardly Nugent's fault, and at least 2 other teams were ready to take him in the second round, Minny and Chicago. If he ends up being a solid kicker for the Jets for ten years, it will still be a solid pick. There are several teams in trouble in the FG department. Atlanta, GB, maybe Minnesota. Even NE has some questions, WITH taking a kicker in what was it, the 4th round?

Nugent is the very least of my concerns as a Jets fan. He'll be fine.

  7. Great point.

But hey, despite the fact that Nugent was twice the prospect the kicker the Pats took in the 4th round was...it doesnt matter. BB is a genius and can do no wrong. And as long as Nugent was a 2nd round pick and isn't kicking the ball 40 yards into the crowd on every kickoff he can do no right!
