I would love a Lawrence Timmons type of ILB on this team, even if he's only out there on passing downs.

Both. But defense more. The Jets do not get to the QB enough. And that was the change i was happy about last year.

Without question, it is the lack of any pass rush. Nobody can cover for that long. Also concerned about the lack of a commitment to a running game, we needed to come out and try and smash them yesterday, not beat them at basketball

Defense just because this is the only time we have seen them completely without Jimbo Slice.

Offensively - what concerns me most is the lack of dedication to the running game. They need to start running the ball down teams throats... last night was a prime opportunity to do so, and we ended up chasing points, throwing the ball and playing right into the Patriots plans.

The Offensive game plan is horrendous lately... it's very high school... best way to describe it, to me anyway. It's so vanilla, no combination routes, no imagination... it's just blah...

We also don't take what defense is giving us enough... that is BAD COACHING on the offensive side of the ball, and is stunting the growth of our young quarterback. He throws well on the move, yet we rarely roll the pocket and cut the field in half for him, making his reads easier. And for the TALK of wanting to play tough and all that, its just talk... Tough Teams, they run the ball... they run it when the defense knows it's coming, and they do it effectively, over and over again. Shotty fails to realize that a good running game is a young QB's and a passing games best friend... We have forgotten who we are... someone said this in another thread, and it speaks volumes... for Brett Farve to have 0 300 Yard games as a Jet, speaks Volumes about his inability to CALL a game.

Defensively - ZERO PASS RUSH from our front 4, 5, 6 or 7 - doesn't matter how many we send, we can not get a consistent push in the pocket... Where are our LB's lately??? Bart Scott & David Harris, when is the last time either of you have made a big play???? This is supposed to be a defnese where the LB's make plays right???

3rd and 4th Corners - do we have one that can cover SOMEBODY... Kyle Wilson, where are you????

Safeties - Brodney Poole - over all your a disappointment this year. Eric Smith is terrible in pass coverage... turn your friggin head and you pick the ball off!!! no you run through the Receiver, PI, first and Goal... loosing Leonard hurts

just a few from what I can see that put some red flags up for me

This was an extremely tough call for me but I actually went with the defense. We have a second year quarterback who played one full season in college and has started a grand total of 30 NFL games. We all knew coming into the season that the offense, and our passing attack in particular, was going to be up and down, and was going to largely depend on the erratic play of our young QB. However, we also all agreed that we were going to have a great defense, possibly the best in the league again. Well, the bottom line is, we do NOT have a great defense. And our historically good pass-defense from last year is just that . .. a thing from last year.

To me, until our quarterback becomes the consistently good, pro-bowl caliber player that he has the potential to become, we will need our defense to return to it's dominant form of last year to have any chance of making a superbowl run. Simply put, I have zero confidence that will even come close to happening. Again, we were all counting on having a great defense as the backbone of a superbowl run this year. After last night, it should be obvious to even the most fanatical Rex supporters that we don't have a great defense.

Our defense needs to step up big time. We have started slow in several games now and certainly needed to smack the Pats in the mouth last night but, instead we were like the walking dead.

Great point and the offense starts with the quarterback, game plan and coaching. Sanchez made two horrible throws that seem intended for the opposing defensive backs. He has to learn to take a sack rather than make terrible throws.

They both have issues, but The "D" is supposed to be the identity of this team. There's no pass rush and they haven't been smothering like they were last year.

    The defense.

Specifically, the Pats beat us the same way the colts did last year in the playoffs. Spread that Jets defense with a 5 wide. Teams with a lot of offensive weapons can easily use their 3rd 4th and 5th wrs to torch our backup/nickel DB's.

Also, the fact that we blitz and still don't get a pass rush is scary.

Sanchez worried me a bit last night too. The interceptions are understandable when you're behind and throwing a lot and taking chances to get back in the game. But he was inaccurate with short passes, not leading receivers correctly on 7-10 yard throws.

I obviously don't have a vested interest, but it has to be the offense.

That passing game just looks awful at times and the timing seems to disappear for extremely long stretches. It's almost like they haven't taken a snap together all year.

Add in curious play-calling and it's definitely my pick.

Take it with a grain of salt, though, because I have only seen a handful of Jets' games this year.

I guess you could say the problem is the defense, but the real problem is these guys are not getting up for big games on either side of the ball. I don't know if it's coaching or what it is but these guys are not stepping up in crunchtime. The defense has been doing that all season. We're up by 20 points and the defense takes the last 8 minutes of the game off and lets the other team back into it. A certain amount has been done but quite a bit more needs to be done in the offseason for this team to be taken seriously again.

For some damn reason, I am with you here.

I have a couple of general concerns.....

1.) Sanchez- How many more of the typical sophomore crappy games does he have left? This is 2 stinkers in a row. Normally, he has one and his next one is a very good game. Not this time....

2.) Defense- This is a copy cat league. If the Jets can not get their scheme figured out then you are going to see too much of what we saw last night. Albeit to a lesser degree.

Brady was as good as any QB I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. As good as Peyton was last year, Brady was better, much better. So who knows, maybe it was just that Brady was so good and that was the main cause of the failings of this defense.

I think that the defense will get things worked out. Rex during his presser today said he stayed at the practice facility the entire night. I think he has the dedication and the smarts to get this figured out.

The offense is another story. I seen this said before, it has no identity. They want ground and pound but when they have success running, they stop. They are predictable with their pass plays. Predictable in the sense they use the same thing over and over again until the other team picks up on it and then abruptly stop. Case in point, the beginning of the season they use Keller death, now? He is invisible. WTF?

Sanchez is spraying the ball too much. He isn't accurate enough at this point. That is something he really needs to work on to become great. No QB with a 50-55% completion rate is going to be successful. Unless they want to put him in a time machine into the 60's and 70's.....

Really, there isn't much they can do that is drastic and worthwhile.

In the offseason, the Jets need coverage safeties, OLB's and get younger on the Dline. On offense they need a new OC and I am not a Schotty hater. I think 5 years is long enough. He has not had enough success to be kept around that long......

Offense because Rex can get the D back on track, and Westhoff is arguably the best ST coach in the game. Shotty and the Offense is a different story though...

    The problem is Mark Sanchez

Last 3 QB's the Jets paid

    Chad Pennington

Brett Favre (old washed up version)

    Mark Sanchez

None of them could play in the cold.

I dunno, after that debacle last night everything seems wrong. The offense seems wrong, the defense seems wrong, the coaching seems wrong, the special teams seems wrong. What else can be wrong with this team right now? How many damn fires do you wanna put out?

I hate the idea that the Jets need to somehow hope they avoid the Patriots in the playoffs now... How can this team come out and just give us absolutely no hope at all if a rematch occurs? Just so pissed off by this right now.

If the Jets get rematched up with the Patriots in the playoffs I don't think anyone will watch. Even the Pats fans won't watch, what would be the point?

Get over it. It happened. Shit happens. None of us like it. I don't want to see them again either but if we want to accomplish what we want to accomplish we will likely see them again. (good chance we grab the 5 seed which means a trip to Jax which we should win...next round would be NE. We have a better chance of leapfrogging them than the current #2 seed) We're not as bad as we played nor are they as good.

We're not that bad, okay but then how much is playing up in Foxboro worth to the Pats? 2 touchdowns maybe? Certainly it can't be 42 freakin' points of advantage can it? I hate this. The Jets have ripped our hearts out again. Built our hopes up and ripped our hearts out at crunchtime. Why won't anyone who plays for this team stand up and win for these fans? How much longer do these fans have to wait for another Superbowl?
