Obviously, a playoff loss is worse than this loss tonight. I assumed the thread starter was simply asking about blowout losses. I didn't read the post, though. I thought he was going the worst beatdown, no-show performance angle.

Definitely not the "worst" loss because there is no plausible way to compare a 9-2 team losing to fall to 9-3 with a heartbreaking playoff loss like Cleveland in 86, Denver in 98, or Pittsburgh in 2004.

However, given all of the hype, it's certainly one of, if not the most embarrassing loss I can ever remember

Duh.Of course it's the worst regular season loss EVER. It ended less than an hour ago. Seriously, worse than the Falcons game last year? worse than the Seahawks game the year before that? Worse than the Ravens game in '00? I mean, this was fucking horrible, but you can go through any bad loss in any season that really kicked our ass and go back to an hour after that game and say the same thing.

    I'll try this again.

    Worst blowout, no-show embarrassment.

I think in order to win someone needs to get busted for drinking and driving.

As has been said this loss is obviously not as bad a playoff loss, but this loss is a devastating loss, in my opinion. The Jets have won exactly 2 division titles and have had a bye once in their history.

Since SB3 this team has been the definition of mediocrity. They make the playoffs as a wildcard, maybe have a good run like last year but the result is always the same. This is not a SOJ post as I don't really believe in that theory, but for 40 years this team has not been able to make the jump to elite.

This loss hurts so much because, and maybe this is my fault, I thought this was the game the Jets were gonna announce to the whole league that the Jets are to be taken seriously. For 10 years, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have dominated the Jets. I thought this was game that ended.

If the Jets had just lost a close game, you could say, ok you got us, but watch out in the playoffs. Now, how do you have any confidence after this team beat you by 42 points. The Patriots just still not as good, and at some point as a Jets fan I have to wonder, when will they. When will the Jets have a big time season. Enough wildcard, WIN THE FUCKING DIVISION GET BYE. BE GREAT.

Now this could all be moot if the Jets actually beat the Patriots in the playoffs because the Jets will still make, the season is not over, but this was the Jets chance to be something that they have not been for 40 years. The Jets had the opportunity to be Super Bowl favorites and stomp on the team that has stood in their way for so long, and they got embarrassed. So yea this loss is the most embarrassing loss in franchise history.

    my thoughts exactly.

but a game like this is easy for me to shrug off. either it was indicative of the actual ability of this team, in which the disappointment will reveal itself through the rest of the season, or the utter shock of the beatdown will refocus the team and get them to play at the level they hadn't reached this entire season. we don't need to hear Rex always talking'bout how it will be fixed, at this point it just needs to be fixed. hopefully this loss will get this team to hit as hard as they talk.

I disagree. a couple of mistakes were made early, the momentum got away and we never recovered. it is easier to look at this loss as a complete aberration than a close game in which you play hard and even great but maybe lose. that's the kind of loss that sticks in the back of your head that we just can't beat these guys.

bahahahahhaha. better have your shit together before you step in with the big boys. you played a team with a winning record for the first time in 12 weeks and it showed.

I don't disagree that in most situations, yes, losing a close game is worse and a blowout is easier to shrug off. But in this situation, say the Jets lost 24-21 where Brady lead a last second td drive, all the Jets had to do was to make one more play and they get the win. But, when you get beat by 42 points and made to look like a high school team, at least I would, you have to start to question yourselves. And if you are doubting your own abilities how have you have confidence to beat the team that puts those doubts in your mind.

the Pats got spanked by the Browns. the Browns. it happens. it just happened to happen to the Jets against the best team in the league.

the only thing unknown is whether the Jets have the ability to rebound from such a loss the way the Patriots do, or if their psyche is so fragile that they look in the mirrors and no longer think they are the team they though they were when they woke up Monday morning.

Please change the title....because in order for this to be a chokejob, it would have meant that the Jets would have showed up to have been able to eat up to begin with.

Just spanked and dominated by the Pats.

We do have our own share of embarrassments in the closet, but losing to a divisional rival, with this much on the line, and the quality of talent this team has... its makes it sting a lot worse than some others. Plus, the wounds are fresh. I don't expect to be forgetting this loss anytime soon.

Granted, I would rather lose this game in the regular season and then go on to stomp them in the playoffs, providing we get the chance.

This was definitely the most embarrassing loss I've ever experienced as a Jets fan. Other losses have hurt more (AFC Championship '98 and '09), but holy shit this was awful on so many levels.
