Vilma don't get me wrong I love your D, love it and I think Steve Young is great but and this is a but with a razor thin edge I like Staubach and Jurgensen better than Young and Dawson and while Rice is undeniable based on numbers I think Warfield was better.
Here are the Paul Warfield vs Mel Blount results. I know for a fact Blount was the cornerback burned all three times in the '71 game. As for the others, I do not know if Blount was covering Warfield. I do not know how many passes were thrown to Warfield or if Blount intercepted any. All I have are the Warfield stats. By '76 Warfield was an old man in football terms and was not the Browns featured receiver. It's possible Blount covered Reggie Rucker in those games. Warfield (1964-69 Browns, 1970-74 Dolphins, 1975 did not play in NFL, 1976-77 Browns) Blount (1970-82 Steelers) 1971 Pittsburgh 21 at Miami 24 Warfield- 3 receptions, 158 yards, 3 TDs Here's one of them: 1972 AFC Championship Game Miami 21 at Pittsburgh 17 Warfield- 2 receptions, 63 yards 1973 Pittsburgh 26 at Miami 30 Warfield- 1 reception, 10 yards 1976 Cleveland 14 at Pittsburgh 31 Warfield- 2 receptions, 49 yards Pittsburgh 16 at Cleveland 18 Warfield- 3 receptions, 65 yards 1977 Pittsburgh 28 at Cleveland 14 Warfield- 0 receptions Cleveland 31 at Pittsburgh 35 Warfield- 4 receptions, 52 yards
Jeff Wilkins had an active day kicking three field goals, but that's all JV's offense could must up while Paul Warfield scored two touchdowns, one in which CB Mel Blount blitzed, another with FS Paul Krause caught out of position.
