1) we play a 3-4 defense which means we blitz at least one LB or DB on every snap. That's the beauty of running a 3-4, you always have one free guy somewhere, sometimes 2 or 3 free guys if the other team keeps RB/TE's in to block. 2) we opted on the side of big, run-stopping LB's. Thomas, Pace, Harris, Mad Dog are all 'big' as LB's go, which means we have a great run stopping defense but not so good covering RB's and TE's in the passing game. To cover the middle of the field we play zone, which takes away from our man2man skills with revis/crom, but that's the way it goes. Rex calls a lot of zone, m2m, and hybrid coverages to confuse the offense but it also tends to confuse our own guys. Rex will call zone on one side and m2m on the other and visa versa. Then straight zone, then m2m, then cover 2, then cover 0 with an all out blitz. Rex has at least 40 defensive alignments all disguised to fool the offense. That's why our back 7 wear arm bands to help decipher what coverage is what. No wonder we have the occasional break down, but when it all works, no one can move the ball on us.
We are getting NO PRESSURE AT ALL. Just watch, our D-Line is getting owned and our blitzers aren't getting through at all. We need to blitz CB perhaps? that might work. Obviously very dangerous to.
Revis blitzed a decent amount for a corner his first couple years, and was very good at it. Rex Ryan was quoted last year saying "He can blitz, but why would I sent the best cover guy in the world on a blitz?" He did have one blitz in the playoffs against Indy or San Diego though. It's rare now, but he used to do it and it's still a possibility. Probably only a few times a season though.
Nothing the coaching staff does will make any difference if the defense decides to take the last 5 to 10 minutes of the game off again.
Looks like the defense has finally put some pressure on the QB yesterday! I saw VG almost had a sack too and I hope the defense can perform even better in the next game against the Pats.
When you're ahead, you're able to attack the passer. That's why the 1st half offense needs to get going, so that the Jets defense can play the way their used to playing.
Revis Island is back in full force and Cromartie has been amazing. Against the Bengals, the other guys on the secondary (other than Leonhard) finally showed up a little bit. To beat the Pats, Coleman and whatever other safety we're trotting out there are going to have to have good games. The pass rush is improving and Gholston is actually make a few plays out there. But to beat the Pats, you HAVE to smack Brady around.
For sure. And the encouraging part is that the Lions had all kinds of pressure on Brady yesterday and were knocking him around. Hopefully we can do the same. And if we finally score a first quarter TD or two, then we can really start bringing the blitz.
I don't think Brady and Co. will explode on the Jets D like they did yesterday on Detroit but I'm still afraid with a slim lead and the Jets D having to make the stop to win the game. We should get to Brady though.
Trevor Pryce and Calvin Pace both had sacks. I also saw pressure from Ihedigbo, I think he should get alot more playing time, could be a speedy linebacker type
