I would have to say that he has been one of the most pleasant and unexpected surprises of this season.

And as a top level first round pick, the development of Sanchez should have been expected at some point. Everyone knew about the potential of Cro, LT and Holmes but Devito, an undrafted free agent, has been extremely solid all season long.

I think I may just buy myself a #70 jersey this week.

Seconded. I assumed if the Jets really struggled on defense it would be because (especially post Jenkins) they only had Ellis and Pouha as reliable lineman and they'd wear down, but so far Devito has been great.

He's been great, he seems to make more impact plays on the line than anyone else, although Ellis gets more sacks.

devito was not a no name though. coming out of maine he was a very highly regarded prospect. just didnt play on an elite competitive level.

his metrics/athleticism compared with first rounders....

DeVito to me isn't a surprise this season, he played very well last year.

Probably one of the strongest guys on the team.

He had some physical gifts that were apparent at the time and he played well at a low level, but he wasn't one of the 255 players drafted so he wasn't all that highly regarded.

I don't know about unexpected. He had a great season last year and is definitely a favorite of mine.

To those that say it was expected. Yes he did play very well last year and I was a big supporter than as well. I was still unsure if he could keep it up or elevate his game much more. I think he has taken it up a new level this year. He has been our BEST dlineman all year.

Without a doubt - he had an outstanding collegiate career for Maine, but we would be ecstatic with his production this year if he was a second or third rounder, let alone undrafted. Just another great find/decision by this front office.

DeVito has been excellent --- along with Brandon Moore & Sione Pouha, he is 1 of the unheralded players on this team. We need to get more bodies on the DL from this upcoming draft.

DeVito had a Rd 6/7 grade, just didn't get drafted. One of the best smaller school prospects that year.

We're saying the same thing aren't we?

His performance has been great. The first linemen picked the year he went undrafted were Carriker, Adams (RIP), Jamal Anderson,Okoye, Harrell and Jarvis Moss, and I've got to say I'd rather have Devito then any of them.

Devito is a solid player. Went to high school with my best friend and room mate from college, and he's a mass guy like myself.

By Green Hornet law, I know Mike Devito.

So basically everyone knew he was the shit.

Interesting because he's almost doubled his tackle total through 10 games, and that was his first forced fumble. That was a great play.

I thought he was older for some reason, but only being 26 he can surely continue to grow.

    No doubt...agree!

Hindsight is 20/20, at the time who knew all those D-Lineman were going to be medicore at best.

DeVito has worked out great...good pick-up!!

He and Pouha are the reason I didn't cry buckets of tears when Jenks went down.

'Danny' had two massive plays against the Texans, obviously the force fumble, and look at how he reads the play on the screen and forces a tackle for loss. Not only strong, but a really good football brain

Gotta love the "overachievers" like a Devito. Need more of those types and need to get rid of classic underachievers like gholston and thomas

I don't think Devito played nearly as many snaps in the beginning of last year. He progressively got more and more as the year went on. The first 6 games he was basically 15-20% guy. (if that much). Then Jenks got hurt and his playing time increased significantly.

It really isn't an apples to apples comparison, comparing years. I get what you are saying though. I don't think anyone expected him to be this damn good.

    As an aside:

I have to say, there were people really complaining about the Mark Carrier hire. A safety/defensive back coaching the DL, I think the reaction was, WTF?....... Anyway, I think we can put to rest that worry. The DL has been superb.

Before anyone complains about the lack of pass rush it isn't the DL's fault. Not in this defensive system. I think Carrier, using the eyeball test, is an excellent coach.

Watching him last year, it was obvious that he was going to be a starter this year and be a big factor in the run game.

He does his job very well.
