Friggin NFL is weird. There is a time in the season when teams that get tot he Super Bowl look back and say thats where things changed.

I really believe, could easily be wrong, that the last 4 or so games will be looked at something like "they squeaked by in some games they should have won more easily but still won and then started to dominate more as the season wound down?.

Cant judge a team going to the Super Bowl after game 9. The offense is almost there and the defense will either start to dominate more or it is what it is. Something tells me we will look back on this recent stretch as a really good thing...besides what it has done in the standings.

More on what it has done in that locker room. While it hasnt been perfect or pretty....the recent games have been great for Sanchez experience wise.

The Falcons have one blow out.

So they're gunna be one and done right?

If they get home field throughout, they just might run the table in that shit conference.

These aren't your garden variety close game victories. These are last play of the game by OMFG are you kidding me...(sooner or later the other shoe is gonna drop) miracles.

As happy as we all are to have those victories, it's absolutely fucking absurd to get on fans for not wearing rose colored glasses and daring ruminate on the “what if's”....because the reality is if those plays don't convert we are looking at a very similar stretch that saw us back into the playoffs last year. Period.

We played teams with losing records 3 out of the past 4 weeks and barely survived them, while getting shutout at home to the only winning team during that span. Not very reassuring.

So the arguments seem to be well 'yeah but even though those teams have losing records, they get extra geared up, and play us it's like it's the Superbowl. '

Really? Is this implying that teams play softer against teams not named the Jets?
Pretty presumptuous if you ask me.

Another argument is that the Jets are finding ways to win despite not playing their best football.

Fair enough, but if the first statement is true (ie.teams in general play harder against us)
playing better football is going to be a much harder task against teams with winning records..that are going to be playing the Jets like it's the Superbowl No?

The Steelers, Pats, Dolphins, Bears games....that's when we'll start rollin? Hmmm...

Anyway I know I'm pissing into the wind here so I'll just cut to the crash.

Throw out the stats, throw out the margins of victory fine by me...
I think we can all agree that making the playoffs and winning the SB is all that matters.

The team I've been watching for the past 4-5 weeks has no shot at doing that....zero....none.
That' the fucking reality of the thing.... and we're running out of time.

All I want to see is the Jets playing championship caliber football for 4 quarters on both sides of the ball conistantly that's it. (and screw bringing up the NE and Buffalo games that's ancient fucking history...leaning on those games is an admission that this team is regressing..

Play like fucking Jets for 4 quarters on both sides of the ball, stop with the bullshit penalties and and let the chips fall where they may. It's all I'm askin'.

We do that and I have no doubt some blowouts will emerge.

Did you watch the last couple of games the Browns played? Uzone27. I did, getting a result against them is impressive in itself although the Jets made things very hard for themselves. I actually think if the Browns had beat us we would be getting more credit in so far as everyone would be raving about them beating 3 quality teams in a row.

I am excited to be 7-2 without the team having played a complete game recently, I think a blow out is coming pretty soon when the offense and defense turn up on the same day.

Not both of them...I caught the NE game.
Yes Browns are a hell of a lot tougher than their record indicates.

I thought Our Offense played a fairly complete game last week, but the defense just plain looked overmatched at times, and Folk....well what can you say about that...

Anyway If you are pointing out that the team is showing signs. Then yeah I can certainly see that last weeks performance is the strongest one we've seen (especially on offense) in a while.

But time is groing short, and they really need to start stringing together some complete games.

Point is that this guy isn't a pundit. Just a flat stat guy. In close games anything can happen. One bounce or change of strategy by opposing coaches and we could have lost Detroit and tied or lost in Cleveland. Same deal in the other close games. If we continue to have so many close games the odds are the breaks could start going the other way.

That we should have beaten the Browns more handily underscores problems that came up in other games. When moving the ball as well as we are we need to score touchdowns and not settle for FG tries..

When we have a lead in the 4th qtr. the defense needs to shut the other guys down. We haven't done either consistently. If we start, it's lights out...

Cleveland blew out defending champion Saints, who were coming off a 25 point win over a pretty decent TB team on the road, in New Orleans and then spanked New England who's been impressive all year. I don't care how we won we won and that's fucking impressive no matter how you want to slice it. Did we get lucky against Detroit? To a point, yes. But think about it this way, how many games have you watched where teams have gotten breaks like that and failed to capitalize?

I think you're going a little too glass half empty. Sanchez just had the best game of his career and there were positive signs all over the place that this absolutely is a championship caliber team. Especially this year when there is no one or two dominant teams.

Although I would like to see us do some dominating, the fact that we are always in every single game until the end speaks a lot for this team..

What about against Miami they get a pick in the end zone? What about against Minnesota with the pick 6 to end the game down 2 pts? What about against Denver after we score the TD to go up 4 we get the fumble to end the game? The last one was a long shot but still, they got the TO to end the game.

Oh no question that there are plenty of positives that can be drawn from the last few games, not the least of which being we won most of them.

That's not the basis of the statement

But in keeping in theme with this thread, the point is we aren't supposed to be hanging tough with these teams. This was the softest stretch in our schedule....and yeah I'll concede we caught a couple teams with hot hands....but geez... barely scraping from behind at the last minute in all of them?

Hanging tough with above .500 records impresses me....hanging tough against teams with sub .500 records begs the question....what's gonna happen when we play the elite guys?

If we give those same types of efforts from the past few weeks against the elite of the league....we aren't wnning anything. That's just point blank reality.

I believe these guys can do it...but I'm really getting tired of hearing Rex use the same cliche's week after week about "good teams finding a way to win"....and "we'll take it" and "no apologies for winning".....and (the worst one) "obviously there's a lot we need to improve on...."

Fuck that...get it right already...play four quarters of complete football....

get out there and beat some people's brains in because I tell you what... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if this team keeps putting it'self in one play do or die situtaions the elite teams won't be as forgiving as some of the teams we've just been "hangin" with.

What about all the points the Vikings scored in the second half? Holding Cleveland to 19 yards or something in the second half and then giving up the TD drive when it mattered most? 6 of GB's 9 points in the last 4 mins?

I did say when we do this stuff "consistently" it's lights out. Don't get me wrong, I think our defense is very good, but there are some issues there that need to be worked on. It was the first thing Bart Scott said to Jenkins when talking about the Cleveland game. They can't allow drives like that at the end of the 4th qtr.

The defense imploded a bit against Minnesota but again, when it counted they closed it out and in the end that's what matters right? Cleveland was bad, but that was the first time a team went on a game winning/tying drive against us...I don't see it as a trend like last year when it happened on 3 different occasions. The defense was lights out against GB, both field goals came off turnovers with them getting good starting field position.

Interesting to see the comments here about that article in the Times. One aspect of it that got me was comparing to last season, specifically the way the team was doing toward the end, and how that carried into the playoffs. We all knew that despite early season losses the team had the pontential to do well in the playoffs. It seemed like things were coming together, and they did.

Yeah, you are what your record says you are. But I think we all know the Jets have the potential to play better. That being the case I hope they start doing so with consistency, beating some of these tougher teams coming up convincingly. Get in taht sort of groove for hte playoffs. Yeah baby!

Conversely if they continue playing too many games with lucky bounces that go their way, even if they win them, it's no stretch to say that will inspire less confidence, at least somewhat.

I hear ya man....too many people out here seem to be pointing fingers and implying that Jets fans need to look at all the positives ignore the negatives and be grateful we are 7-2.

People want to wrap themselves into that 7-2 security blanket and all that...good on them.
For my part I just want to see Rex step up to the podium after a game and stop congratulating the other team.

Just once I would like the first words out of his mouth to be....

"Boy we sure did open up a can of whuppass on those boys didn't we? Now that's what i'm talking about, it was Jets football on both sides of the ball today no question" We brought our A game today that's for sure."

That would make me feel better yes^

    It's just a fad.

The team is winning. Is it all good? Good, but not all good.

It means absolutely nothing, look at the Giants, all their huge, impressive wins, and they get exposed by Dallas and will probably be 6-4 after Vick is through with them. It has nothing to do with a 7-2 security blanket, it has to do with realizing that all that matters is whether or not the Jets win the game. The Jets annihilated the Cardinals in 2008, but look at where they ended up and where the Jets ended up.

I agree we need a blowout. Just seems like this team needs to have a game where the offense fully and consistently executes on all cylinders. We have seen glimpses of this, but the Jets haven't really put it all together yet. We are basically the 2d worst red zone team in the NFL. Our offense needs to score more TDs. If our RZE was even average for the NFL we would be in a better position to score some blowout wins. Scoring Tds also greatly helps the D to become much more dominating because opposing offenses are forced to try to play catch up and the D can pin their ears back on the blitzing.

So I totally agree that we need a blowout. We need our offense to execute in the RZ. Score TDS. This seems to me to be the next step in Sanchez's progression as a QB. He needs to get in the End Zone and put opposing teams away. This doesn't mean its all on Sanchez, but he is the QB. I'd like to see them get away from going shotgun in the RZ as it doesn't seem to be effective for Sanchez. Maybe better to let him line up and hand it off or maybe roll him out. There has to be a way to improve our terrible RZE performance and if we did so, we would be much more likelier to get a blowout rather than continually have to settle for a FG or a missed FG.

Wow, if convoluted logic were graded on a scale from 1-10 (one being the lowest ten being the highest) this would rate an 11.

On the one hand you minimize the quality of the Giants opponents/ wins and in so doing imply they are not as good as their record seems to indicate....predicting a nasty loss to a future elite opponent.

On the other you dismiss the quality of Jets opponents/wins and state matter of factly that the record is all that counts...and punctuate that with a total non sequitur about a Jet route over a Cardinal team two years ago.

    Masterfully played sir. :metal:

I keep seeing this thread and thinking it says something about blowjobs.

    :(
