Did anyone else get the feeling like we could really move the ball in the two minute drill? It seemed like Sanchez did better not thinking too much. Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought this. Sanchez lobbied Rex if he could run the 2 minute drill in OT - he got the OK and did well there too. Now, there's a lot more to it than Sanchez not "thinking" too much in a 2 minute, such as the defense not able to get substitutions in etc... But maybe we could shift to a compromise like a no-huddle series like what Peyton can do. Anyway, Kudos to Sanchez, I thought we were going to lose this one. http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010110700/2010/REG9/jets@lions/recap/full-story?module=HP_headlines ""He's at his best when he's not thinking and he's just a California boy playing football," Jets receiver Braylon Edwards said." "He successfully lobbied Jets coach Rex Ryan to run the two-minute offense in overtime. "When I started running it, we got them on their heels," Sanchez said. "It was obvious that we took over the game at the end."
Which is why i want him in shotgun with 4 wide most of the time..that'd be "playing to his strength" but hey, whatever.
He moved the ball when it counted, he's becoming rather clutch. I def thought we were going to win outright before we tied the game. Once we won the OT toss, I knew we were taking the game.
I wouldn't mind seeing a no-huddle/2 Minute Drill-type offense on the field for our first series against the Browns.
The offense is too complicated and involves too many reads. It's the old Mangini defense "read and react" only for the offense. It puts everybody on their heels and confuses the heck out of everybody. How many times do you see Sanchez take the playclock down to 1 or 2 seconds because he's going through a mental checklist of 40 things he has to do presnap? The two-minute offense works because it's greatly simplified. Everybody knows what they're doing instead of trying to think where they should be positioned and which read they need to make to do this particular block or pattern. Schotty's offense should be called: Keep It Complicated and Kooky. As in KICK every four downs. Rex needs someone more like him for the offense. Simple concepts that are easy to teach and learn, executed really well.
Which is why I think Callahan should coach the offense. I guarantee he would have them better than 16th in Offense from that week forward.
Actually I was worried when OT started because they gave him time to think... he was not in a hurry anymore and the CS (or at least someone in there) could start planning again... I don't know if that had anything to do but the first play in OT was awful. I'd be happy if they just let him call the first downs, if he messes up, OC still has 2 downs to "fix" it.
It was nice to see them in the shotgun, I've wondered before why they don't do that more often. They've got great personnel for it....3 Damn good WR's, great pass catching TE, great receiving RB.
they should run no huddle more often like the colts do sanchez clearly works better when the offense is simplified remember how bad he struggled in week 1 when they did a million shifts and kept changing everything at the line, then in week 2 sanchez dropped all that and then steamrolled over new england
These are all great comments, except for the Sanchez is a dick one...useless. BUT, I was thinking the same thing on my commute. It seems like the Jets just dominate in the 2 minute style of offense. I would love to see them open up every game like that. Script your 10-15 plays and do a whole drill. And hell, if it works, do it all the time unless we are in clock killing mode. Just my opinion.
I thought the only time we were not SOJ during that game was the last two minutes of normal time and OT. Non-Schotty time. God help us if we are seeded first in the AFC and he has more than a week to ponder on his play-off offense.
Also false, I've never seen Sanchez act badly, in fact his attitude is one of the best things about him. We've been lucky that we've had some good QB's to root for with Sanchez and Pennington before him (we'll skip Favre). There are plenty of D-bag Qb's in the league.
shotgun? you're out of your mind! why would we EVER want to play to our strengths? YOU SHOULD BE BANnED FOR SAYING SOMETHING TO LUDICROUS
The Jets have too much talent on offense to rely on trickery and making things over-complicated. When things are simplified and Sanchez is allowed to just play and make plays, they can be as good as anybody. That's my big problem with Schottenheimer.. he is too reliant on outsmarting and tricking the defense. That's all good and well when you don't have much offensive talent like the Jets in 06, but now the Jets have as much talent as any team in the league on offense. We should just be doing what works best for us and not worry about outsmarting anybody.
