I know Holmes hasn't played many games for us yet (so we don't really know how versatile he can be) but imo a problem we're having is our WRs really are 2 split ends and a flanker.

We don't really have that safety valve ala Welker or Bess (just to stay in our division) to catch short-medium passes down the middle.
I also wonder why LT isn't used more like that, those throws can be very useful to move the chains...

Keller should kind of cover that need but he tends to go deep more often than not. It's a good thing because he's a mis-match but still... kind of takes some important throws away imo.

I wonder if Schotty wants a situation like this (because he likes to go pretty deep) or if he does it because he doesn't have a true slot guy.

    Agree? Disagree?

Holmes and Kelly can easily fit that role. It is all in the play calling.

Meh... yeah they can fit in it... but imo you see it's not their role. Holmes just isn't reliable enough... you need to play him on the outside where his explosivness makes the difference.

As for Keller I have more hopes...

Slot receivers depend upon option routes, something that Holmes hasn't demonstrated the ability to run yet...

I think Keller is the "over the middle" guy for the most part, and LT is serving as the safety valve for Sanchez. He gets a couple of dump offs every week.

Plus he hasn't demonstrated the ability to hold on to the ball too well either..

Agreed, but let's not call him Kelly, onless he continues to let balls get ripped out of his hands after a catch

Cotchery plays that role too. Maybe not so much this year but he has in the past. Receiver is hardly a weakness for us this year.

If he's Kelly does that mean Sanchez is Dylan?

Cotchery is supposed to work a lot out of the slot. Schotty said that himself.

Lol Keller is really a tranny Jets forum loser.

The Jets do not need a slot WR they have 2-3 guys with just as much ability as Bess.

Disagree. Its Cotchery. Good route runner with, untill last week, solid hands. There is a reason Sanchez targets him so much, its because he's the underneath receiver running the safer routes.

Also, we run a lot less spread offense looks than New England. So none of our guys are going to see Welker like 10 catch games.

The lack of passing offense in the past couple games has been disturbing. In Denver mark looked bad, against the Packers our receivers played like shit. Hopefully they play a complete game sunday so threads like this go away.

^^ Great Post as always Harp,

Cotchery is a perfect Slot receiver...oh wait, is this a Little white guy thing?
But, he has the best hands on the team (1 bad game in his JETS life)...He goes over the middle, and runs great routes.

So What's the problem? Shotty is.
He doesn't know how to use his players.
Seems all he does is say..you line up here and you here with no regard to what the players skill set is.

That should've been what Clowney developed into. Slot receiver, occasional deep threat...instead he developed into a shlub.

Clowney would be an outside threat if he ever did develop. The OP seems to be looking for someone like Chansi Stuckey.

Slot would be the worst place for Clowny. He's a long strider with good top end speed. The guys in the slot need to be able to take quick steps to help disguise thier intentions. When someone kick big like he does you know hes goign deep or at least will not be able to make a quick break. Rote running is a big reason why the Clown has never caught on any where.

Stuckey would be a very nice compliment to Holmes and Edwards. Cotchery can do this job as well.

Thx Royal. I love to mix it up between complete jackass and actually posting about football. I'm glad some around here can tell the difference in my posts lol.

I don't really agree here... sure Cotchery can fit into that role BUT I like him better when he's on the outside.

I'd like to have a guy with more agility playing on the inside... with more explosion. Cotchery is the perfect flanker but not the perfect slot. Ok slot WR but not perfect...

Agreed we don't run NE system but still... I think it could be helpful.

Holmes has the explosion, and can play wide.

Holmes and Cotchery can both play the slot, it's nice to have some versatility...we don't need a permanent slot receiver just because some other teams do or to say we have one.

Bullshit the Jets need a small white guy with heart or a small black guy with dreds (Wilson has been benched)..... it is simple.
