Yeah, because a below average journeyman center would keep the QB so much cleaner than a highly regarded rookie center. Oh wait, I forgot, Mangold's going to suck because he was a bit intimidated on his first day playing against NFL players, right? :rofl2:
really , stop acting like teage was a f-in 10 year pro bowler. looking at him last year and talking to bills fans, they thought he STUNK IT UP.
Healthier, not cleaner..... I never stated that Teague was great, but after losing Mawea he was considered a solid / decent stop gap C for the Jets, and one who could hold down the position until Mangold gets his feet wet. Nothing more.... Nowhere among my responses on this topic did I state that Mangold was going to "suck", so please don't insinuate I said that. On a side note, I've noticed you do that a lot when it comes to other fans opinions, and you like to make up things that simply don't exist. Great way to prove a point....:rofl2:
This news about Clements is very disturbing. There was only one offensive line that was worse than the Jets last year.... SF.... and Clements got benched on THAT team! Exactly what I was afraid of when we drafted Ferguson. It put Jones on the bench, because he's a LT. He isn't a RT. Clements.... oh, I really, REALLY don't like this.
I don't follow your logic. You say that Mangini knows what he's doing yet it was Mangini who signed Teague. Since Teague was signed before the draft and given a two year deal it also certainly seems like Mangini thought Teague could play center for the Jets if Mangold wasn't available. The Jets had Mangold as a draft priority yet signed Teague anyway so it appears that Mangini wanted the insurance of Teague to help Mangold should he need time to adjust to the NFL. Instead, you make it sound like Mangini broke Teague's ankle in a masterplan to play Mangold. Incidentally--what is there in Mangini's background (almost all of it as a secondary coach) that indicates to you that Mangini is an expert in the center position at this point in his young career? Just curious as I imagine that Mangini is busting his own butt getting up to speed on how to handle an offense--a job made tougher because there are so many inexperienced coaches on the Jets staff.
Does anyone doubt there will be growing pains with two rookie starters - even #1 picks? OK, so they will have their ups and downs - but better to get them in there and learn in 2006 to be serious contributors in 2007. Depth, who cares - the goal is to grow the young line with the two rookies and Jones - and to find out if any of the other young guys - Cavka, Snell, Katnick, etc. can play at all. 2006 is a rebuilding year, isn't it?
Who cares about depth? As a Jets fan you should after seeing 2005. Scott Pioli says that he spends more time on the 33-53 slots on the team than he does on the top 32 because information and evaluations are harder to come by on depth players and chances are you're going to need a lot of them to step in and play over the course of a long season.
I'm with you baamf. I think we need to throw our rookie OL into the fire. We invested too much to watch them sit around. Put them in now, let them grow together and become a contiguous unit. If we are lucky we will have a great young OL for many years and will only have to replace Kendall.
