Who else has fond memories of this great Jets player? I see a lot of hate from many fans (most of whom never even saw him play) when it comes to this guy. It's probably due to that ONE late hit on Kosar back in '86. What a bunch of crap. It's a real shame because in his day he was much loved by the fans....and certainly one of the most entertaining to watch on the field in our history. I still miss ya, Mark! There are still tons of Gastineau fans who remember how great you were. You were an awesome Jet! Thanks for the memories!
which is more impressive.....Gastineau's sack total or that he survived Brigitte Nielsen's rank pussy?
the gastineau sack dance was as good as it got. not only did the qb get knocked down, but then he had to watch this nut dancing on him. didn't they change the rules because of him?
Yes, commonly known as the Gatineau rule...and yes he was great...he must have been the poster child for steroids..3.5% body fat...the guy was a beast and I still say that late hit they called against him in Cleveland was bogus and once again a play to keep the Jets out of the superbowl.
Sorry but the guy was and is a turd. I hated his f***ing sack dance, it was a complete horse**** and a disgrace to football and the Jets. I love all of the sack exchange members except him. Salaam and Lyons were beasts in the middle and nothing needs to be said about Klecko's value. I think all the D lineman and linebackers on those teams were more complete players than him. Being surrounded by the likes of them allowed him to tee off on the pass rush with a lot less responsiblity. Obviously as a fan I liked it when he sacked QB, but did I like him?- no Did I like his dance? - no Did I respect him?- no
On the contrary my friend, it was his ability to get to the QB even while being blocked by 2 guy's that made the rest of the players on that line great.
yeah he did shit on the field, but was crazy off it. i dunno. i try to stay away from the "prick off the field" type of thing.
This is exactly the kind of Jet fan mentality I'm talking about. Support this statement with a fact or two. "End of story" my ASS!
My opinion is there are plenty of other players worth creating an appreciation thread over before resorting to starting one over Gastineau.
He was excellent at what he did, and his presence helped the other members of the line, just as their presence helped him. I thought the sack dance was embarrassingly moronic. By all accounts his teammates hated him, and he's completely estranged from his own daughter. He was a steroid abuser. He has spent time in jail for parole violations, and his post-football boxing career was based on his opponents taking dives. He seems to have taken a much lower profile in all aspects of his life in the past decade, which is probably a good thing. That's about all the appreciation I've got.
There have been Leon Washington appreciation threads, I think even one for Clemens and you are complaining about this?.....
Gastineau was one of the top five players in Jets history and should be in the HOF. If he were playing for any other team in the league he would have gotten a lot more credit.
