Sorry if already posted. (from footballfuture.com) 2. Edgerrin James, Indianapolis Alexander's status as the league MVP and a lack of injuries are the only things placing him ahead of James on this list. The Edge is a strong runner between the tackles, with the ability to wear down a defense over the course of game. However, he also has the quickness to hit the corner and stretch the defense across the field. Also a tremendous receiver, his versatility has long been an overlooked factor in the success of the Colts passing game. The many looks James gives a defense forces it to spread itself thin in anticipation of a variety of plays. He is an adquate blocker in pass protection, and shows good awareness in recognizing different defensive packages. Health is obviously an issue, as he has missed time with knee, angle and rib injuries. GOOD FITS: Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Carolina, Philadelphia, NY Jets, Baltimore EARLY PICK: Edge is likely to seek out either a warm weather franchise or one playing in a large media market. It is no secret that he is less than enamored with the Midwest, and should the Colts show a waning interest in resigning him (as they are) he is likely to seek out a long term deal elsewhere. Jacksonville doesn't have a need at running back, but Fred Taylor has been twice the injury risk that James has been, and with Edge's desire to return home to Florida, the Jags are really the only viable candidate in the state for his services. Carolina is the only other possible destination that meets James' climate requirements, unless one actually believes he would subject himself to the losing ways of the Cardinals. Teams like the Jets and Ravens may create needs as they say goodbye to aging veterans and free agents, respectively. Those two and Philly would all be large media markets in which Edge would be a featured player on offense.
Highly doubtful. The Jets will either draft a RB or stick with what they have. We've got way too many problems to throw money away on a guy like James when Martin/Houston are completely servicable and could be a lot better with an improved O-line.
It makes no sense for the Jets to give Edge the kind of money he'd need when they already have Martin on the team. It's not happening.
It wont...next year   Or something. Im confused, how does this whole thing work?? :breakdance:
 All I know is that there'll be some owner (cough)Snyder(cough) who'll have a field day with this. His team will probably be worth more than Australia.
we wouldnt invest in a RB of his age with Martin in our backfield. Especially with the cap hit he would cause. We need to , and we will, draft or get a young RB. It's illogical to have 2 veterans on the team. Edge doesnt have many years left as it is, not that he's gone in 2 seasons, but we wont get the longevity out of him that we're looking for.
nah guys,we're cool with the cap situation, but Edge isn't on the radar, unless Bradway rears his ugly head....again............
Edge might actually be viable if the new CBA raises the salary cap to the 107m figure that is being reported. I'd do it if it wouldn't kill the cap.
Sure its a good fit....we need a RB and he is one. Other then that there are a few factors nullifying any such possibility, such as ..... huge contract demands ..... and our lack of cap space.
we wont be signing any big name Free agents the next couple of years, you guys are funny most of you accept the fact that we are rebuilding and then you bring up guys like him, well signing a long term deal for huge money would not be considered rebuilding especially since we cant afford it anyway and i dont think that he would come here anyway.
I agree with a lot of others, there is no way we get Edge. Think about it. If we were even contemplating paying Edge what it would take to bring him here, we should keep Abe. That would make sense.
The thing that makes Edge worth it though is he is the perfect kind of running back, he's a big bruising back with speed to explode out of a hole if he finds one. That kind of RB gives defenses fits, and is also the type that can put an offense over the top. IF the CBA gets signed, and the cap is raised 10 million, the Jets might have room to make a run at him. If someone is willing to blow him away with a cap offer than the Jets move on, but if they can get him at a price that won't destroy the cap, then he is absolutely worth the money.
The Problem with abe is that he has no interest in being with the jets anymore so we dont really have a choice, obviously hes a great pass rusher but when someone says that they want out you cant keep them or else it will become like a TO situation on much smaller scale.
