first thing i could think of when discussing the game today with some friends was "wtf was santonio doing on that reverse? like, he straight-up ran right into the defender, when he could have easily went around Braylons block and got atleast another 5 yards" i mean im glad we won and all, at times while watching the game i thought Mangini was running the show again, but a wins a win. nevertheless tho that was a very charley brown like moment on Santonio Holmes part.
Mangini ran the show but never the ball. My guess is he had his eyes closed. I can't think of any other explanation.
It was a good play, they always run that reverse with Brad Smith so the defense probably didn't see it coming. Hopefully Santonio can stop fumbling though.
This is the second time this season a Jet has lost a fumble by running into his blocker (Greene being the other one). Holmes didn't fumble last year. He's been fumbling this year. Odd shit.
Holmes does seem to hold the ball rather loosely though in the short time I've seen him. I'm hoping just being aware of the ball a bit more can help him solving the problem.
im so sick of the lack of discipline shit... we are 5-1 and have won games in many different ways (close game, blow out, comeback) a team that lacked discipline wouldnt do what the jets are doing now.
It was just a brain fart. As 624 said, it probably looked to Holmes like the block was moving to the sideline, and he realized at the last minute it wasn't. He needs to double wrap that ball though if he's going to bulldoze like that.
Shit happens. Sometimes players run into their own blocker. One thing I know for sure, I'm not going to let Dan friggin Dierdorf's bloviated analysis influence what I saw with my own eyes. That guy is absolutely horrible. I can barely listen to any of them other than Simms and Aikman.. The only thing that bothered me on the play was the fumble. He needs to fix that quick...
lmao yeah dude Dierdorf is an idiot, i love when he does Jets games, because 1) Greg Gumbel is an amazing football announcer, and 2) me and my buddies have some good laughs at Dierdorf's expense.
Right now Edwards is looking like the WR that will get re-signed by the Jets, not Holmes. Edwards gives Sanchez a nice big target to throw at, something we haven't had since MeShawn Johnson.
We know you have an unhealthy obsession with Jerricho Cotchery, but you don't have to trash our other receivers.
Here comes the guy with a Braylon Edwards signature to match the life-size Poster hanging on his wall in his room. Holmes hasn't impressed me. What do you want me to say, that he has? Keller has been awesome, Braylon has been pretty decent...Hell, I even would like to see Brad Smith in at WR more often.
Holmes has played in 2 games this season, 2 of Sanchez's poorer games this season. He hasn't lit up the box score, but this offense doesn't usually do that to WR's...especially ones with 2 games experience. Santonio has been clutch and come up in big spots. Braylon has been better than decent, he has 1 drop all year and is among the top receivers in TD's in the NFL. This is on a run first team. Jerricho is an awesome possession receiver, and will get his catches...but you can't deny that Braylon and Santonio aren't better talents. It's just kind of weird that 90% of your posts are either crowning Jerricho as the best receiver on the team, complaining he's not getting more looks, or saying our other receiver's aren't good.
The 3rd and 7 that went for 13 yards three plays earlier (where he got turned upside down on the sideline) was the exact same route as the PI play. Except on the PI play he faked the first db out of his shoes (making him think it was the same short out rout) and got single coverage deep. On the less than perfect pass Holmes knew where the ball was and the db didn't. Making him look retarded...
