His deep ball is one of his best assets. Last night was not a night where the deep ball can be thrown, unless you have a cannon like Favre. Sanchez does not possess that kind of arm. This season he hasn't had to throw many passes over 35+ yards, but some that he's connected on have been called back due to penalties.
its true he could have thrown his deep balls better but Ill give him a pass because of the rain. Favre didnt hit any deep throws except for one on moss and he also threw picks and fumbled twice so Sanchez did what he had to to win and did nothing to help us lose. There were also a lot of dropped passes last night. Huge win though being 3-2 going up against at denver and greenbay would have been scary and the panick would have started again. Feeling much better being 4-1.
Yea penalties have brought a few back. Also even if a deep pass is incomplete it still helps our offense which I dont think some people realize. Having Bray and Santonio running deep routes often and getting thrown to whether its complete or not is spreading out the defense and opening huge holes for LT. We passed some say too much yesterday when our run was working well but they couldnt stack the box because we were throwing so much even on running downs
He has some nice strikes to Keller and Edwards this year. In Buffalo, and Miami especially. Not a bomb but that 24 yard pass to Keller in the EZ was a beaut.
Sanchez throws a great deep ball. Just because you haven't seen it yet this season doesn't mean he doesn't have it.
I'm still waiting to hear some examples of poor deep throws other than in the shitty conditions last night. Like I said, I'm not saying the OP is wrong, I just don't recall it being an issue outside of last night.
That was a BS penalty too, Trevor Pryce was nice enough to admit that on his way in. It was BS though-
I've noticed it a bit too. Which is odd because in college and last year, his deep ball was always extremely on target.
If anything I think the opposite is true. Sanchez throws the deep ball just fine but is too streaky with his short and intermediate throws. Guys like Mannning, Brady and Brees complete a low percentage of their deep passes like most QBs but their short and intermediate passes are slam dunks. To continue with the basketball analogy, Sanchez is a good 3 point shooter who struggles at the free throw line and misses a lot of layups.
That's because Braylon does not trust his hands. He loves to catch balls against his body. IIRC one of his drops last night was because he did that.
the deep ball will come with more experience and receivers that are bonafide threats..... IMO, edwards hands are too suspect for effective deep routes and holmes, whom is a bonafide threat, still has to get on the same page with sanchez.... regardless, the jets now have more of a deep ball threat than when pennington was in there slinging it around for a few years, especially after s. moss left for the skins. jil
Yes I hear what you're saying and all (and I admittedly just logged-into this thread w.o reading beyond yours-yet) but at the same time, the landscape involving the QB-WR timing has changed in recent years, e.g. "back shoulder throws" "fades" etc. I too was thinking maybe Sanchez can't "pass--long" in the rain. That said, do recall a former Jet coach (Weeb Ewbank) assessing Namath's ability to throw 'long' .... for what it's worth, respectfully, fellow "modern" Jet fan: "some guys can throw long....Namath can 'pass' long." THAT was, a 'weeb' quote. period. Further, Vince Lombardi once cited Joe Namath as "the best pure passer I ever saw" Further, at this stage, let's forget the hard-on's that Jet fans grew when Sanchez nailed that pre-season bomb to Clowney.....let alone the previous Ratliff-Clowney ("Cleveland") connections. Look, I don't know if Sanchize's mitts are undersized or whatever, and yes I thought some 'chucks' of his last night in the very wet looked a little "arm-lacking" in terms of accuracy (Favre's post-game comments notwithstanding)....but day'em!....given his TD/INT ratio to date?....and this on the heels of the national media almost gloating about the Jets "1-point-blowout" vs. the Ravens?....I'll take this SECOND-YEAR QB in a heartbeat. This kid delivered some nice 3 down slants to a 1st-week WR (Holmes) and some nice check-offs (LT).....excuse me but what Jet fan wouldn't want this kid--producing in this 'big-media' market-- as their current QB? ...nice draft / 'move-up' / pick, Tanny. Forward: Denver may present a pre-winter freak snowstorm....or a beautiful 60-degree day....whatever, dial Ortin's arse to the turf on Rex-designed blitzes (Denver's underrated WR corp aside), rest #24 next weekend...the off-week...and maybe then some... ...... and go from there. It's a long season. I want Revis 100 percent in a playoff game against Balt. at the Meadowlands. Against any NFC team. jmho.
haha I see it more as since he bangs really hot girls, his deep ball is one of his best assets when he beds them.
Are you being serious? Rookie QB's almost always struggle in the NFL. The kid has only played 5 games into his sophomore season and has already showed a tremendous amount of growth from last year. Young QB's need time to develop. We're lucky he's grown so much already. Peyton Manning was a 56% passer after his first season (575 passes), and at the same percentage after 5 games of his sophomore season (744 passes) I guess we all missed that trend.
Sanchez, lead a receiver please The next time Sanchez leads a receiver on a deep go route I'm going to jump up and down in excitement because I haven't seen it since the first play of the AFC Championship game last year.
