Jenkins its time to spend your time with your kids...You dont want to permanently end up in a wheelchair
I have to agree with Rotoworld I don't think the Jets will pay 3.75 million for such a high risk player now. Plus, I would like us to draft or trade for someone younger at that position.
he wont sniff the 3.75 million to come back he would likely have to take the vet minimum with some incentives built in very similar to something like jason taylor did for the dolphins in 2009
Let him stick around for another year as a situational player who can also tutor hopefully a high drafted rookie D-Linemen.
I'd gladly welcome him back at a reduced salary with bonuses for playing time and things like that. It's not like many teams will be banging down the door to pay 4 mill to a DT who played 6 games the past 2 years. I think he knows the Jets are where he has the best shot to play, make an impact, and be comfortable.
I understand why most of you want him to hang it up, but there might be some misconception about ligament tears. I'm no doctor, no expert, but I do know that once a ligament is torn, it doesn't regenerate. In other words, Jenkins' 2010 injury undid his 2009 surgery, but did little if any additional damage. With C-Mart, I was thankful he retired when he did. He had totally eroded his knee cartilage and was threatening his long-term ability to walk. He was done. Jenkins is different. He's simply back where he was last year, with a newly constructed ligament. Except for training camp -- which he seemed to love -- he's put no additional wear on his body. He shouldn't (necessarily) be at any additional risk of injury. Assuming the reconstruction was successful, he takes a pay cut, and he is totally committed -- and keeping in mind that premiere DT's generally play into their 30's -- I don't see why he can't be a major contributor again next year. Or even for two or three years. Just want to make sure I'm thoroughly on the record here, because I really feel like he's going to come back strong. I keep picture him in that golf cart laughing his ass off. I mean, that dude was killing fools and loving it. Come back for the back-to-back, KJ!!!
we should pay him the 3.75 mil. its only 1 year. jenks has been great here in many ways and if he feels he can go why not? we still need to draft a NT but jenks can be a stop gap
I'd like to see him give it one more shot to walk off the field like the big man that he is under his own power.
He's still under the effects of anethesia ........ and watching his team play well. I love the guy and wish he was still playing like he did at the beginning of last season, but he'll come to his senses.
A lot of hate here. I know the guy's been injury prone, but he's a good guy. And he plays for the Jets. How about a little support for the guy. I know some are saying he should stay retired just because they think health wise it's best for him, but it's his decision. If he chooses to try to come back how about actual Jets fans give him support. This is the guy who had issues in Carolina. He came here, helped revitalize the defense, bring some swagger to the defense and the Jets, and has given everything he can (even if he's had some bad luck along the way). Unlike at some points in Carolina the guy has been nothing but a team player and bled green and white.
If he steps on the field, I'd be cheering for him. However, I think it would be a mistake for the Jets to expect him to play significant time. He'll need to take vet's minimum with incentives.
He's got a long time to think it over. He still may change his mind. I'd be surprised if he came back.
You know how nuts these salaries are when you have people saying play for the league minimum and thats still 20 times the average salary (before you take into account bonuses, endorsements, etc etc) No way he gets anywhere near the 3.75.
