Pinch me! After 4 games played we're #1. That loss to the Ravens proves one thing, when we show too much respect, we lose. Play our game and we win. NFL Power Poll: Ravens right behind Jets in rarefied air Vinnie Iyer Sporting NewsSporting News A challenge to forming a weekly NFL power poll is trying to look past the transitive property. For example, it might seem strange the Ravens, who beat the Jets in Week 1, behind the Jets at No. 2 after four games. But then you consider the Jets' only loss came to the No. 2 team, while the Ravens to fell to the now No. 21 team (sorry, Bengals fans). The bottom line: With how well they're playing, New York and Baltimore are the clear favorites to meet in the AFC championship game. "To be 3-1, especially in the AFC North, which I consider to be the most physical division, it's big." Ravens running back Ray Rice said after Sunday's 17-14 win at Pittsburgh. "Now, we have to take care of the division in order to be good for later on in the season." 1. New York Jets (Last week: 1) We knew about the defense and have been surprised by the passing game, but it was really nice to see that dominant rushing attack again. 2. Baltimore Ravens (4) The defense continues to make opposing offenses look ugly, but Joe Flacco and the offense can look pretty when needed. 3. New Orleans Saints (3) They're working through a bit of a funk thanks to injuries. With Arizona, Tampa Bay and Cleveland on tap, they have time get right. 4. Green Bay Packers (5) They've been even sloppier of late, something they must shake with these next five opponents: Redskins, Dolphins, Vikings, Jets and Cowboys. 5. Pittsburgh Steelers (2) Even though they lost a tough one to hated Baltimore, QB Ben Roethlisberger just returned Monday. 6. New England Patriots (7) It's just not fair when Tom Brady and their loaded offense is getting scoring help from the defense and special teams. 7. Dallas Cowboys (12) So much for playing "catch up" in the NFC East-they're a half-game out of first and ready for a post-bye roll. 8. Houston Texans (9) Arian Foster has added another exciting element to their offense. How long can they last being last in defense? 9. Kansas City Chiefs (13) They stand as the league's only undefeated team, and they must prove their worth Sunday at Indianapolis. 10. Indianapolis Colts (6) Speaking of Indy, 2-2 is a most unfamiliar position. They better be ready for the Chiefs' running game. 11. San Diego Chargers (14) They're quietly putting everything together with the No. 1 defense and a power running game to complement the Philip Rivers' show. 12. Atlanta Falcons (15) Matt Ryan and their defense, as expected, are both coming of age. 13. Chicago Bears (8) That's how quickly their offense can do a Jekyll-and-Hyde job. The defense might have to carry them for a while. 14. Tennessee Titans (10) Chris Johnson has another difficult matchup ahead with the speedy Dallas defense. 15. Philadelphia Eagles (11) Forget the QB issues-the pass protection and defense are bigger concerns. 16. New York Giants (19) Everyone's favorite head-scratching inconsistent team is back. 17. Minnesota Vikings (17) We'll see if Brett Favre has found his rhythm because the Jets will do everything to throw it off. 18. Miami Dolphins (16) They need a bye after two prime-time division losses at home. They might want to work on special teams. 19. Washington Redskins (23) They're 2-0 in the NFC East. Unfortunately, the next four are out of the division. 20. Denver Broncos (25) Kyle Orton is doing his best Drew Brees impression, leading the league in passing. 21. Cincinnati Bengals (18) Even when they're good, they manage to bungle away games. 22. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (22) They have enough young talent to linger for a while before fading in the NFC South. 23. St. Louis Rams (27) QB Sam Bradford already is making a strong case for rookie of the year. 24. Seattle Seahawks (20) They're a real enigma because they're caught between aging and rebuilding. 25. San Francisco 49ers (24) They aren't what we thought they were, but they still can get to the top of the NFC West. 26. Jacksonville Jaguars (29) Josh Scobee gave them the kick they needed to become a tough, competitive team again. 27. Arizona Cardinals (21) They're still in first place without Kurt Warner, but it's doubtful Max Hall provides the same magic as an undrafted QB. 28. Cleveland Browns (31) They need a lot more players like Peyton Hillis. 29. Detroit Lions (26) They have been the hard-luck Leos-so close to four wins, yet they don't have a single one. 30. Oakland Raiders (28) Bruce Gradkowski has them fielding something resembling a real NFL offense. Now they must find a run defense. 31. Carolina Panthers (30) The last thing they're struggling offense needs to see a return visit from Julius Peppers and the Bears. 32. Buffalo Bills (32) The holes are gaping everywhere you look, and the injuries are starting to make them wider. The running game got on track Sunday, which is a funny statement when you consider they were ranked 9th in rushing going into the game. That's how good it is.
nice to see gang green getting respect. hopefully we can keep on this awesome track and show that it is well deserved
Another one with the Jets on top- http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/10/05/nfl-power-rankings-week-5-j-e-t-s-jets-jets-jets/ 1. Jets (3-1) | Last Week: 7 That loss to the Ravens feels like it was a lot longer than three weeks ago and it is only moving further into the rearview with the return of Santonio Holmes, Calvin Pace and Darrelle Revis this week. Brett Favre didn't have a McNabbian influence on the Jets, but beating him in his return to Jersey would be cathartic all the same. --Josh Alper 2. Saints (3-1) | Last Week: 4 It wasn't impressive, but the Saints managed to hold off Carolina Sunday at the Superdome. Perhaps they were still in a bit of a funk from the Atlanta game, but the Saints are also battling some injuries that could make it hard for them to hold this spot. 3. Ravens (3-1) | Last Week: 11 The Ravens are going to play a lot of close games this year, because they just don't have an offense capable of averaging 30-35 points per game. Instead, they make big plays when they're needed most, like Joe Flacco's winning touchdown pass to T.J. Houshmandzadeh Sunday. 4. Steelers (3-1) | Last Week: 1 Pittsburgh couldn't keep Baltimore out of the end zone Sunday in the final minute, leading to their first loss of the season. Now, they get Ben Roethlisberger back, and if he's effective, there's no doubt he will make a dangerous team better. 5. Patriots (3-1) | Last Week: 6 Special teams keyed New England to a huge win over Miami Monday night, a win that allows the Patriots to stake their claim to a spot among the league's elite. The defense still flashes some holes, but it's hard to deal with an offense clicking like this one is. 6. Texans (3-1) | Last Week: 7 Houston held Arian Foster out for some time Sunday, and Foster still burned the Raiders defense. With the Colts, Titans, and even Jaguars looking like decent teams, this division is hardly a cakewalk, but Houston does indeed have the upper hand at the quarter pole. 7. Bears (3-1) | Last Week: 2 The Bears found a way to keep Jay Cutler off his back for large chunks of their first three games, but the offensive line fell apart against the Giants. Assuming Cutler is good to go this weekend, the Bears better get to work on finding ways to protect him better. 8. Colts (2-2) | Last Week: 4 Peyton Manning has been out of his mind so far this season. Somehow, the Colts are only 2-2. That's scary in a way, because their best player probably can't play much better than he has been. Instead, the rest of the team -- especially the leaky defense -- has to step up quickly, or the Colts will find themselves in unfamiliar territory. 9. Chiefs (3-0) | Last Week: 15 The Chiefs enjoyed their week off by watching the other undefeated teams fall, leaving them as the only remaining team with no losses after four weeks. They now have an incredibly tough test to keep that distinction, as the Chiefs travel to Indianapolis and Houston in the next two weeks. --R.J. White 10. Chargers (2-2) | Last Week: 12 The Chargers dominated the Cardinals from opening kickoff to the final whistle on Sunday. Norv Turner's offense is leading the league by posting over 450 offensive yards per game. The passing offense ranks third at 318.5 yards per game. Who needs Vincent Jackson, anyway? --RW Top 10 only, follow the link for the rest- Miami is 19th here and the Bills dead last.
awww shit... the fucking jets! I want to see ESPN's. Interested to see what Clayton has to say-Dickhead.
This is yet another question the Jets must answer-can we deal with recognition, praise and prosperity? Remember 2008 after we destroyed the undefeated Titans. Most power rankings had us as the best team in football or one of the best. Then the bottom fell out. So far we've answered or began to answer the following: 1. Will Hardknocks be a distraction? Don't think it has. 2. Will they live up to the hype? After stumbling out the gate, the Jets are who we thought they were. 3. Will Mark Sanchez take that proverbial "next step"? So far so good. 4. How will this team respond to adversity (e.g., Ravens lost, Ines-gate, Dougie-UI...etc.)? They've come together in these situations. 5. Will the fall victim to a trap game? Jets took care of business. So let's keep this train rolling. GO JETS!!!
Yeah it's tough to not put the Jets at #1 in these meaningless polls right now because of how much firepower is coming back.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing these things having us ranked so high. This one especially http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/05/week-four-power-rankings/
I'll say...I had to re-read it. The hype is really coming on, lets see what happens on Monday Night Football. I think we may put on a really good show with some of our toys back in the line up and it should solidify our standing. Its early in the season but if we keep playing like this, we can a "gotcha" game or 2....
