Has nothing to do with anything Rex has said... I AM TELLING YOU......... IF IF IF IF FREAKING IF, the Jets are going to win this year, there's a great chance that Kyle Wilson is going to be a huge part of it and along with a HEALTHY REVIS and Cromartie, they will ALL form a great Secondary... Add In Pool and clarifying the communication issues..... If you know the guy has talent, and a bunch of posters just laughed off your doubts about his Work ethic, then Why are you crying?????? You want to know WHEN he will get better? Seriously?????? Just sit back, enjoy the commercials and Half time show and some of the more knowledgeable poster around here will tell YOU when Wilson takes another step forward and we will point out what situtations he is placed in and analyze the rest of the game for you.... Spare yourself the crying and just enjoy what you have the pleasure of witnessing here. A Young man with a ton on his plate growing up before our Eyes... Personally, Watching Kyle Wilson develop and battle each week is one of the highlights for me..... Guy is tenacious, he needs to tweak a few things, COMMUNICATE and be aware... He also needs HELP... But, Rex doesn't often allow it... He takes the good with the bad. Part of the bad is having to listen to the Whiners who have no clue.
When you are missing the best CB in the league and you can still win against a hated division rival while giving your 1st round rookie CB valuable experience in man island coverage - which is the cornerstone of your defense - that's a nice thing to have to argue about. I think Kyle Wilson is going to turn into an excellent cover corner, he just needs some time to develop his physicality within 5 yards of the LOS. Revis didn't develop that well until a ways through his second season.
Kyle Wilson is going to one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL by next season. SOJF are truly amazing just frigging amazing
I expect this from some posters, but come on, WSW. I have only stated what you yourself just stated, but in more pronounced terms: KW has been playing awful at times and is struggling with the basic fundamentals of man-to-man CB play. Will he get better? I have no idea. I've never said he would or wouldn't because I simply don't know. But if he's playing awful, don't sugar coat it. Say it. And if you're going to defend his play with the rookie card and declare "he will definitely get better", as some posters have, then I am calling BS. I haven't seen anything thus far that suggests he will be a starting corner in the NFL. As of now, he looks like an average nickel CB. I'm still waiting for the "flash" that we even saw from Sanchez in week 1 last season. And please don't reference fluff articles, especially ones which quote coaches during a TC holdout of the best CB, not to mention player, on our defense and/or NFL.
I don't think you know what you're watching then. To me it's seems clear that he has what it takes to be a starting NFL CB. I don't watch college football and never claimed to know anything about him coming out, so please don't try and call me some kind of Wilson dick rider. He's already the 3rd best corner on our team even if he is struggling as a rookie. Even in week 1 when he struggled he was mostly in very good position, he was just unaware and didn't have great body control. In week 2 he came out and showed some of the awareness and body control he was lacking week 1. Last week he looked a bit lost again, but considering what he's already shown I'm going to go ahead and chalk that up to rookie inconsistencies.
Just like we've stayed with Sanchez, we stay with Wilson and go through the learning process with him. In the end, I believe he will be just fine.
he looks a little overwhelmed at times, but once he learns to instinctively get his head turned around, this should improve quickly. At least the PI penalties will start to go away :breakdance:
He's getting abused mainly because he's playing out of position. He is a classic nickel corner. He's great at shadowing guys over the middle in the slot. But his ball skills aren't great, and thus, he can't play WRs on the outside because of all the go routes they typically run. This is one of the biggest reasons why we will be SO much better defensively when we get Revis back.
he not getting burned, he's usually with his man and in good position, he just needs to learn ball skills. cromartie still doens't have much of them and he's a vet. matter of fact outside revis no CB really has great ball skills, at least wilson gets to learn from revis
I wasn't here during Revis' rookie season but I'm sure you'll find a similar thread like this about Revis in the archives somewhere. Granted Revis had a very good rookie season but he had his struggles finding the ball as well. My concern with Wilson right now is the killer penalties but that'll get better with coaching and film study.
Yes, yes yes yes yes and another yes. When I get home I am going to dig up a Revis thread or two. Wilson's coverage is actually fine. If he turns around on the ball he defends at least 2 of the 3 passes he is getting killed for!
IMO, the biggest reason he struggles on deep patterns is because he doesn't know when to turn around for the ball. Maybe "ball skills" isn't the right term for it (although according to Jeff Fisher, it is), but regardless, I think you have to have a feel for when to turn around and play the ball to be a great outside corner.
