First things first, that was a great win. Going on the road in the division without arguably our best player was huge. Second, Calvin Pace will be back soon. That's going to be a nice upgrade, and I think we'll see more pressure even without blitzing. Henne had all fucking day last night over and over again which really could have cost this game. We're also playing without our #1 receiver. In a QB/WR league that's going to make a hell of a difference. Think about how open Keller can get when we have 1 more GREAT receiver on the field??? I can't wait to see it. I think one thing I haven't seen a lot on is the importance of that 1st drive. To come out there on the road like that and go right down the field into the End Zone like they did really set the tone. The offense is getting a hell of a lot better. Sanchez is turning the corner and I'm actually trusting him when I watch games now. Last year I would have been sweating bullets watching him go down the field on the last drive, but this time, I felt almost comfortable (granted he did almost give it away!) Thinking back to last year, those 1st drive TD's were huge difference makers. It seems like the games we won easily all started off that way. The Pats, the colts, the saints, they all come right out of the gate and score, not field goals, but TD's. TO be elite, you need to do the same. On the other hand, the D was not good. No great defense gives up yards like that. I know we couldn't rush the passer and we really aren't playing with our Ace corner, but man! I had absolutely no confidence in them stopping the dolphins last night. The 2 times the fish had to punt in the 4th qtr it was because Henne made bad throws to open receivers. He threw it at their feet. That said, the idea of revis and cromartie on the field at the same time is unbelievable. Wilson won't be able to be exposed like he was yesterday, and Marshall may have gotten 50 or 60 yards. That game wouldn't have been close!
Braylon is one hell of a blocker...honestly if he weighed more he would be the perfect pass catching tight end.
great pic, that's awesome. I'm pretty excited overall for us at "ull strength." I just hope they all integrate into the flow of things and we don't, say, try to force everything to Santonio.
You realize the Jets gave up 31 points in '09 against Miami right? That's an 8 point improvement over last year against a better offense and no Revis or Jenks compared to last year's D.
Henne was a pretty big unknown last year. I think he really took Rex and Pettine by surprise. He didn't have that advantage going for him this year.
i think that's negated though by the fact Ted Ginn or Devon Bess was their #1 receiver depending on the game, last year. having a top 3 WR makes a huge difference
Not to mention Sanchez was relatively unknown to Miami. And Braylon was 4 days in with the Jets. Miami Wildcat'ed the Jets to death last year. The gimicky play calling stomp the shit out of us. All that said, we prevailed last night allowing fewer points, with a weaker D. Yes, Henne was a under the radar last year. But looking at how MIA's last 2 games went, did you expect him to throw for 340+ yards?
We've been talking about Calvin returning all night. When I see "Huge Points", I'm expecting something big, not just regurgitation.
I think OP was excited to create a thread and didn't organize his thoughts first. what he was trying to say is: 1) that the offense looked pretty strong and 2) is going to get better when holmes comes back 3) the D definitely showed how much they miss big jenks, Revis and Pace. not necessarily "huge points" but i may have missed the croutons in his word salad.
IMO, One hugh point was that with a 24-23 lead with about 5, 6 minutes left the offense was able to take the ball and move it down the field and score a touchdown. In seasons past the SOJs would have been 3 and out and punted.
