http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...draws-7500-fine-for-hit-on-patriots-wr-welker For the second time in three seasons, Jets safety Eric Smith is being punished by the league for over-agressive play. A league source tells NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora that Smith has been fined $7,500 for unnecessarily striking a defenseless receiver. The play in question was Smith's hit on New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker during the first quarter of New York's 28-14 win on Sunday. Welker was slow to get up following the play, but later returned to to the game. Smith was suspended one game and fined $50,000 for a "flagrant violation of player safety rules" for a play involving receiver Anquan Boldin in 2008. Boldin, then with the Arizona Cardinals, fractured his paranasal sinuses on a helmet-to-helmet collision with Smith and eventually missed two games. The NFL handed down other fines on Friday: » A league source tells La Canfora that Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox was fined $7,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Cox made a throat slashing gesture after intercepting a pass by Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselback on Sunday. » Cardinals free safety Kerry Rhodes has also been fined $2,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct after making unnecessary contact with an official, according to a league source. The Arizona Republic reported on Wednesday that Rhodes apologized to his coaches for the first unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he received in Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Rhodes was ejected following the second foul of the game. Rhodes felt the second penalty was unfair, but was contrite about making contact with the official, saying he was just trying to get his attention. "I wouldn't hit the ref or doing anything else," he said. "I'm not that type of player." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...ungy-pays-visit-to-ryan-watches-jets-practice NEW YORK -- Tony Dungy met with Rex Ryan on Saturday morning, after the former Super Bowl-winning coach criticized the brash New York Jets coach for his foul language during HBO's "Hard Knocks" series this summer. NFL Audio Pass Dungy, an analyst for NBC's "Football Night in America," spoke with Ryan and watched practice at the Jets' training facility in Florham Park, N.J., before the team left for Miami to play the Dolphins on Sunday night. Dungy told "The Dan Patrick Show" last month that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should talk to Ryan about his excessive use of obscenities. A disappointed Ryan said Dungy unfairly judged him. The two spoke on the phone shortly after Dungy's comments, and Ryan invited the former Colts coach to spend a day with the team.
Not really. I like the way Smith goes all out on every play, but there's a reason he's second string; he's a huge liability in coverage.
Fuck you Dungy and Rodney, you can both eat a hot, steamy, lightly-salted bag of dicks with your sanctimonious bullshit. Edit: referring to the NBC segment that just aired in case that wasn't apparent
I wonder if Tony Dungy heard the golden boy take the lord's name in vain during the playoffs
It Dungy just compare BE's DUI to a player of his who was pulled over for Drug and Gun posession. What a holier than thou asshole.
Dungy just said he was gonna pick the Dolphins until he visited the Jets and spoke with Rex. I take that as a good sign because no matter what your opinion of Dungy he does know what it takes to be a good football team. LOL only Jets fans could seriously be pissed that the both of them gave the Jets a bit of hard time about Braylon but ultimately said the Jets would win. Guess it wasn't a bag of 50's.
