I know several posters, including myself here have mentioned this fact about the 1st down marker chain crew member to move about a yard towards the Jets endzone which apparently confused Dustin Keller. Here's a pic, provided by Uhm a Jets Fan http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz343/unleashtherat/butter.png?t=1284439448 Dustin Keller's Post Game Quotes were: Source: http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/09/14/jets-a-total-flop-against-ravens-in-hard-knocks-curtain-call/ Even if Dustin Keller did get the first down there, there's no guarantee that the Jets would've moved up the ball another 30 yards to get into comfortable FG range. In a game of inches, however, this bothered me. A lot. I was unable to find an official link for NFL Chain Crew Instructions and/or Procedures but I have found several references which infers that the Crew do not move out of the way unless instructed by Officials (even in the presence of a collision). This First Down Marker guy moved one yard, not even towards the Ravens' endzone, but the Jets' endzone. I am not blaming this loss on one damn play, and not on one member of the officiating crew, but something needs to be done if the procedures/rules indicate that he wasn't supposed to move the yard marker in middle of a play. Here are some related links. --------------------------------------- http://www.azfoa.org/OfficialsManual/10ChainCrew.htm http://www.cvfoa.org/Documents/StudyManual/fbchain1.pdf the above source does say to protect themselves for safety, but bring the marker backwards, not along the sidelines. http://www.wsifoa.com/Mechanics.pdf ------------------------------------------------- Plese provide a link if there are any NFL officiating instructions about Chain Crew.
He's right.. there really aren't any excusese. Even if the crew guy should have dropped the marker instead of moving to the side, it's on Keller to make sure he has the 1st. Shit happens though. The game was lost long before that play and hopefully Keller won't make that mistake again.
How can Keller make sure that he has the first when the marker is back a yard? Watch the play, Keller had barely any time to react.
Didn't notice that live but just re-watched it on DVR. I was so pissed at Keller originally but now I see what he's saying. I'm not going to say we lost because of that, we lost b/c the offense played like shit, but it didn't help.
Wow...that really was the case. And I think that is why we didn't see Keller even try to get the first down since he thought he already got the first down.
I just watched the replay of it. This douche needs to stay in his fucking spot. Keller needs to know where to go, but when you are running full speed, and you get your head around to see where the marker is and this fucker is a full yard short from where he is supposed to be standing, its on the marker douche to stay in his spot. I'm not blaming Keller. He got his head around and this cunt is in the wrong place. Its doesn't matter, it shouldn't have come down to that bullshit anyway. Cavanaugh is a Super Bowl winning OC, let him call the fucking plays. Callahan is a Super Bowl appearing HC, let him call the fucking game.
It doesn't matter, Sanchez would have checked down to the RB 3 yards downfield for 3 plays in a row anyway.
The guy holding the stick couldn't move towards the endzone the Jets were playing towards without pulling the guy at the other end of the chain. Keller could have seen the marker on the ground, that didn't move.
That was just the capper on what was one of the most frustrating Jet games in the 44 years of watching. Actually, the real capper will be learning that Jenkins is out for the year. I certainly hope thats not the case, but I can feel it coming.
Right. I'm sure Keller's looking for some tiny marker on the ground versus the HUGE orange stick with a bullseye at the top. GTFO. The Ref shouldn't have moved towards our side, allowing Keller to think he had the 1st.
Doesn't matter. We would never have seen the endzone anyway with the way the O was playing. The game was over wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy before that point.
Not so easy when you are going full speed, the guy is supposed to stop and look at the ground? The entire purpose of the stick is so the players can see at their level where they need to go. Any player that looks at the ground is asking for a lot of trouble. It wouldn't have made any difference but it brought an end to a really frustrating night.
Keller had so much fucking room to run. Could of gotten so close to field goal range. idc if the officiating crew put the marker at the wrong spot...fucking run you idiot.
Gosh darn officials!! Just when the Jets offense was clicking on all cylinders and they were marching down the field towards victory!.....
