even after the season begins? I thought if you demoted a player from the 53 to PS they were yours? I guess that doesn't make any sense... yeah I'm wrong.
Well I mostly felt that Clowney would be coming back IF they felt Coles couldnt perform @ an nfl level/was an injury risk himself.
With the way the Ravens secondary is banged up going into this game, we'll be fine with depth at WR. Please, please, no more Coles after Week 1. He's done, the man needs to retire.
When did he seem adamant that he wasn't coming back? On Hard Knocks Rex pretty much said that they were bringing him back to Coles in the meeting when they cut him.
Coaches said he can still play and they basically said if he's there they'll pick him back up. It now comes down to him agreeing to return after the Ravens game.
They need a receiver Weeks 2-4 so if he can still play, and I trust your (and certainly the staff's) judgment, bring him aboard. Adalius Thomas, too, then?
Here is the link but, its slightly long, so I only added the exact quote I wanted to from Coles, but straight from his mouth. "I think I'm done," Coles, 32, told The Star-Ledger of Newark. "I don't want to become one of those journeyman football players. I don't need the money. [Ryan] said I was doing well and they want to bring me back after the first game, but I don't know. I don't think that's something I want to do." http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5509593
I'm pretty indifferent about LC coming back, but he's the kind of guy: if he gets an itch, he might just scratch it.
They learned from last year that young guys who aren't ready to contribute early in the season can be vital and fresh late in the season. Our inactive list will be loaded with projects this season (and Kellen).
Players can be signed off your PS at any time. The team signing them just has to keep them on the active roster for 3 weeks so they earn game checks. In other words, so it's worth their while to switch teams.
Hmm. I hadn't seen that, but I hope there's another option coming after Week 1, or that they truly feel Woodhead can play in the slot. Out of our first 4 opponents, we have 3 injured secondaries missing players (Baltimore, New England, and Buffalo), and one young and improving, yet middling secondary (Miami). While we don't want to be relying on Sanchez, we sure as hell want to be passing the ball with no Reed, no Bodden, and banged up Byrd.
I hope Coles comes back. People have to remember that while there was obviously a significant drop in production last year for him, the Bengals won their division with Coles as their number 2 wideout. We're asking him to be our 4 or 5. At the veteran's minimum playing in only passing situations, he's one of the best values on the team. He's not totally washed up yet
We are a running team obviously and Keller is a WR that plays TE. Plus we have LT and Woodhead who made some nice catches last year coming out of the backfield. The Ravens secondary is not intimidating at the moment so they'll have enough trouble with Cotch, Braylon, and Keller. I'd expect to see LT and Shonn out their together on some 3rd downs anyway.
oh no i know that was just clarifying why I believe he stays on the 53 regardless of who comes back. he wont dress every week but will be learning on the sideline and in the film room. what I like that I see going on here is were "leaving no stone unturned" the cliche that Tanny really DOES exercise. since Rex got hear I've noticed a strong yet quiet effort to load up on young guys to keep in the wings, I think Rex also learned a thing from Ozzie Newsome in if you think a guy can play you hold onto him until its absolutely proven they cant contribute. If Cumberland develops, we have a nasty double TE set that makes defenses think twice whether its pass or run coming. Slauson also has to find his groove if we have any legit plans of Ducasse kicking out to RT when Woody is gone. before i start going on in length about my take on the state of the franchise , ill just make a long new thread before kickoff.
Taking that a step further....I wouldn't expect the Jets to go Airborne in week one, until Slauson has a chance to actually get his feet wet. I would expect them to want to play a 13-6 type of game. With two fullbacks on the roster, it's going to be curious how much hammer they try to bring.
Classic mis-direction? Jet carrying only three WRs. Jets had the #1 rushing offense. Balt without Reed and at least two corners. I think the Jets are planning a major air strike against Balt Monday night provided Edwards has plenty of stickem on.
We have Edwards, Cotchery, Smith, Keller, and Tomlinson. How many more pass-catchers does this team need? Maybe Coles and of course Holmes when he returns, but honestly, how many passes are going to be thrown that we need that many receivers?
