Rex Ryan: "The pressure is on me. Not on our players." » By Manish Mehta Rex Ryan responded to Ray Lewis' morning invective against the Jets by deflecting all the attention away from his players. A few hours after the Ravens linebacker called out the talkative Jets for their brashness, Rex defended his big talk. "My players haven’t made those comments," Ryan said. "I’ve made those comments. So the pressure is on me. Not on our players. … If it doesn’t work out the way I think it will work out, then who’s it going to be on? It’s going to be on one person and it’s going to be me. Not on our team." "If’ want to win it, you ought to be man enough to stand up there and say, 'We expect to win,'” Ryan added. "I got news for you: We expect to win this week, next week and every week. Now does it happen? No it doesn’t happen all the time, but we expect to win.” Lewis ripped the Jets for all the chatter. "We're talking about the Jets like we're talking about the Saints,” Lewis told Baltimore reporters. “Those are the only people that can be dethroned. Drew Brees and the Saints. Not Mark Sanchez and the Jets…. If they're the Heat, then we gotta be the Lakers, because we're looking for multiple rings.” Ryan fired back: "Sounds like we got under Ray's nerves." The Jets coach admitted that he wasn't surprised by Lewis, a notorious trash talker on Sundays. "I got a lot of respect for Ray," Ryan said. "It doesn’t matter what he says in a negative light. I still respect him. But we are going to try to smash him, I can tell you that much." Added right guard Brandon Moore: “I know he doesn’t like us and wants to beat our heads in. That’s what I expect. We feel the same way about him.” NOTES: The Jets officially sold out the Monday night opener against the Ravens, the team announced. The 1,500 unsold premium seats don't count toward the league’s blackout policy. S Brodney Pool, who is nursing a sprained left ankle, said he expects to practice Friday for first time this week. He worked on his lateral movement with the team trainer today. Rookie Jeff Cumberland has a chance to be activated for the season opener as a wide receiver, Ryan said. Cumberland, who made the team as a tight end, and the versatile Danny Woodhead practiced with the receivers today. I also noticed the reporter to the right of Manish at that press conference. Had the NYJ2K10 bowl haircut going.
None of the above. It was in the middle of the episode at a presser. He's the Indian guy laughing and/or smiling.
