Wilson will probably also be used to spy under routes. They say he's strong so he can also cover TE's lined in the slot instead of the Jets having to use Scott and him getting burned.
^ I'd venture to say, a lot of DBs played WR at some point in their football career. Plus football is football, if you get to the NFL, you presumably know how to take hits?
Not sure if it was mentioned earlier but the one ray of sunshine in the Revis holdout was all the work KW got in the pre-season. We can obviously see that he is a star in the making but are not stupid enough to believe there won't be some bumps along the way. What are the chances of us keeping Cro past this season?
In the article they specifically say how great Wilson is at recognizing his blocks and setting them up. Look, the coaching staff didn't just watch that Youtube video and go "OMG WILSON RETURN PUNTS" They evaluated him in film/practice and he won the job.
This is what I was intending. Wilson's value as a CB - especially in the Playoffs against spread Offenses with elite QBs (e.g. Colts, Patriots, Chargers) - is greater than his value of 8.6 YPR on Punts. That's fair, although I disagree. My main point is the latter of what you said -- value. In my opinion, Wilson is worth more to our Defense than Bush is worth to the Saints Offense. If Bush were to suffer an injury in the Playoffs, I think the Saints Offense would still be high-octane against any opponent en route to the SB; they'd still have Sean Payton directing the Offense and Brees executing it. If Wilson were to suffer an injury in the Playoffs, Peyton Manning would pick apart Lowery and Coleman. Seriously. The moment someone expresses an opinion that contains one iota of concern, people pull out their fucking hair, clamoring "Complainers! Darksiders!" I thought message boards are supposed to host casual debate. Henceforth, all citizens whose opinions include any notion of concern shall be condemned as heretics and burned at the stake
Disagree all you want, it's a message board and a free country, but I just don't think it's a good idea risking additional injury to a starting DB returning punts. Clearly the CS doesn't see it the way I do. Hopefully it works out and he doesn't get hurt...
That's good, I was only basing it on what I saw from the video. In a good majority of the returns he sprinted past the defender before the blocker even got there. Obviously, the end-result was still great but I want to see how he does in the pros.
He's not starting. So, shouldn't that affect your position? Having said that, I understand that along with #3 wideout, nickelback is one of the two most critical players off the bench. But he's not a starter.
I think Wilson will turn out to be an amazing pick. If Cromartie falters at all or gets hurt, I feel very confident that Wilson can step right in and play well in his place.
It's not like Deion Sanders or Ed Reed ever risked their health by returning punts... WTF r we thinking risking Wilson.
Wilson does not need to return punts. Only in an emergency situation. Besides Wilson is going to see the field probably more than we might think. Just MHO
I should hope not. The guy was supposed to be the best man cover corner in the draft - he had better be better than Lowery.
