it took me about five minutes to digest this, you aint kidding. Especially against the ravens defense, which is probably the closest thing in the NFL to our dominating defense, I don't even know what the hell we would do if our offense is nearly flawless and puts up 30 points on its own...
Two important points I haven't read much focus on. Woody has REALLY worried me in the pre-season (and to be honest, Brick isn't blowing my fucking mind either). The strength of our line has not necessarily been 1 individual, but the cohesiveness of the entire line. Fuck with one cog, and the whole things looks weaker. Yeah, I know "it's just preseason" but at what point do you start working about shit? And the play calling. I'm up and down with Schotty, but I've found myself increasingly annoyed with the calls. Again, yes, preseason, but I remember having this feeling toward the end of last year as well. All speculation, but things to watch.
Schotty's 3rd down calling can be very frustrating.his insistence on going shotgun in 3rd and shorts and empty backfields drive me nuts
Jets offense fate hinges on turnovers & play-calling. Without turnovers....Jets can & will move the ball. Sanchez always moves team up & down field....then its some penalty or turnover that sabotages drive. Its in the "Redzone" that the Jets struggle. Jets #1 nemesis is Shotty & his play-calling. Calls runs, when a pass is needed & calls passes...when a run is needed. Maybe Jets should let Sanchez call his on plays. Jets offense looked best when Sanchez called plays in pre-season game 4. Jets need to use more no-huddle.....with 4-WR sets.
So let me get this straight: 1) Our second year quarterback should start calling plays. 2) We should throw out the "ground and pound" and switch to a faster-paced no huddle. 3) Tony Richardson, John Conner and Dustin Keller should sit on the sidelines so we can get Danny Woodhead on the field more often. Got it. Championship.
Players make plays not coaches. Schotty can call a double reverse, if it goes for 40 yards he becomes a genius, if it goes for negative yards he is the worst oc of alltime. Billick was an offensive genius in minny, went to Baltimore and couldn't put an offense together. Schotty doesn't make Sanchez stare down his receiver, he doesn't make Holmes catch then fumble.
One girl from Queens?! Jesus, when are the Jetskins going to realize you have to develop talent in-house? SOJFC.
Sorry sorry. No matter what, no one can be hard on the offense or Sanchez until after week 4. 12-4 makes the playoffs, worst case scenario.
call me nuts, but 12-4 might be good enough for a bye, possibly top seed in the AFC this year. If you think about it, the perrenial powerhouses in the afc Pittsburgh Baltimore Indy NE SD 2 are in the same division, NE has to fight with us, and might be fielding the most vulnerable team since 2002, and SD has 3 of its top players holding out and no plans to see them before the end of the season. Pitt and Baltimore are going to be duking it out and Cincy is good enough to steal a couple of wins from those teams. Houston is primed to make a move for a wildcard this year, I wouldnt be shocked at all if they take a game from Indy this year. I also feel Indy is going to suffer the let down that generally comes with a loss in the superbowl. They will still win the division, but don't be shocked if they go 11-5 San Diego is in for a big time dropoff. Their defense is weaker than last year, add to that their best pass rusher in Merriman is pissed about the tender he got. Also Mcneil probably won't set foot on the field till week 10, which might get Rivers killed, plus Jackson is gone for at least that long. Jackson is their only reliable threat outside of gates. Sure floyd might step up but he damn sure won't be replacing the production of Jackson. They will win the west. But probably a lot closer to a 9-7 record than 12-4 this time around. New England, is as vulnerable as they possibly can be while still having Brady at QB. Their defense is weakening, in a few years as all of their draft picks progress they can return to form, but for now, they are heading into a down year. Add to that Ty warren is out, as is their top cb in Leigh Bodden, the defense is going to give up points this year. On offense, Logan Mankins is holding out, and was 3 times as likely as Revis to hold out the entire season. Kazcur is out for the season I believe. So their 3rd string LG will be playing. You guys thought our LG problems were bad.... Oh and did I mention these guys need to contend with us? So in conclusion, since the teams most likely to have the best record in the AFC are going to be beating each other up, 12-4 might net a team home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Why is everybody ruling out the Bengals? To me they should be the obvious favorites for that division... They added some pieces, and are healthy now. The Steelers don't have Ben or Holmes. The Ravens are injured pretty badly.
I agree about the Bengals. They added pieces to their offense, and their defense is pretty solid once again (4th in Tot. defense last year). Ravens have big questions at cornerbacks and at tackle on the o. line.
I was talking the perrenial powers in the AFC. I think cincy will be tough, but i think baltimore is better. But Cincy should finish ahead of Pitt, since I seriously doubt they start strong with Ben gone for a month. My guess for the playoffs this year are as follows 1. Indy 2. NYJ 3. Ravens 4. Chargers 5. Cincy 6. Houston If I had to guess I figure Cincy is 10-6, with Baltimore at 11-5, and Houston at 9-7
I agree with your 12-4 assessment. Unless its the Jets, I don't think anyone's going to be 13-3 or better.
I like talking offense. The quarterback is a very important position for this team. I'd even go so far to say that the QB position is important for almost every team. Your thoughts?
I just finished watching the out look 2010 video for the phins on NFL website and Pat Kirwan said "The jets will miss the playoff, Pats wins the division and phins makes the wildcard." WTF! Does Pat know about football ?
