I know, he's a backup, but goddamm, he can consistently lay the lumber when called upon. With Poole's ankle questionable, and with folks unsure as to whether Eric Smith is black, white or something else, he's a nice guy to have sitting in the wings. What's the concern with this guy in terms of starting ability? Closing speed, ability to read/react?

In each of the last 4 games I found myself saying more than once that he's one of the better tackler/hitters on the team.

Great blitzer, and attacking the line, but not so great in coverage.

    Ihedigbo Pool

But yes I agree, he's an explosive, physical player and a great kind of player for Rex to have at his disposal.

See Abram Elam, although Elam was better in coverage IMO.

Dig is a great role player, especially in a Rex Ryan defense. In a starting role though his weaknesses would be a major liability.

Not much of a cover guy, but great for those 6 DB-blitz packages Ryan likes to run.

Great blitzer and ST player... and in Ryan's D it's important to have DBs that know how to blitz.

He's a third down safety. He'll blitz the shit out of you but can't cover anyone. He's great at what he does though

If he didn't overplay he'd have a shot at starting. He's a magnet for yellow flags though. I really like him and I like having him in the safety rotation (especially in blitz packages) but I don't think he could ever be a starter.

What also strikes me in that clip is he tries to swipe at the ball not only getting the sack but trying to force a turnover in the process.

Ihedigbo did win, Pettine came in second, and Leon third. I never got that one, maybe the players felt bad and put a shit load of money in the pot.
