Brodney Pool's ankle still keeping him from practice »

    By Kevin Armstrong

Brodney Pool, the starting free safety, missed practice Monday afternoon due to a sprained ankle. The severity of the injury is unknown, but his absence for any extended time would weaken a secondary that is already coping with the void left by holdout Darrelle Revis.

Ryan spoke of Pool's aggressiveness in regards to going after balls in the air rather than settling to ensure a solid tackle. He has no questions about Pool's willingness to engage in physical plays on receivers, either. Ryan wants him to be more of a "ballhawk."

"Just go for the ball," Ryan said. "That's what separates the great ones from the good ones."

The 53-man roster continues to be revealed at Jets headquarters.

Rex Ryan acknowledged that both fullbacks (veteran Tony Richardson and rookie John Conner) will be retained. Likewise, all four tight ends will stay put.

Three quarterbacks (Mark Brunell, Kellen Clemens and Kevin O'Connell) will see action Thursday night.

RT Damien Woody (lower back) sat out practice and visited a chiropractor. He was back in the locker room afterward. Also injured:

LB Kenwin Cummings (shoulder), S Don Warren (concussion) and G Charlie Tanner (knee). DE Shaun Ellis (knee) was limited.

There was no update on the pursuit of outside linebacker Adalius Thomas, who played well for Ryan while in Baltimore. Ryan said he will not be added in time to play against Philadelphia.

Yep. Its about who will help the most on special teams. And I have a feeling the Jets will be doing more TE sets when they run so that the defense can't put 9 in the box anymore.

6 OL lines make things kinda obvious.

Cumberland is a project, but they like him. He might have a big day on thursday, because he'll see plenty of playing time.

Pool will be ready for the opener, as will Woody. I just hope this isn't the year Woody decides to break the OLs streak of consecutive games (with the remaining 4).

I'm really going to pay attention to Kroul. I'm just liking this kid a lot. I saw him at the Jets Practice in NJ and he just looks like he's going to make this team. I can see why Pettine was so high on him early on.

Woody has looked suspect so far, but not as bad as Ducasse. I'm referring only to work with the 1s, because assessing an all-backup OL is worthless. It bothers me how difficult it seems to be for Vlad to slot in.

Ducasse is learning how to play all over again. He's gotten by on size and strength for years and now he's getting schooled on leverage and anticipation. He'll probably be fine and will likely be starting at RT next season. It's a long step up from Massachusetts to the NFL. The last player drafted out of Mass was in 1999.

I wonder if Sharper gets cut from the Saints..... WIll he have to sit out until he's ready to play or would a team like the Jets who need help at S sign him and then pup him for 6 weeks?

Sharper is more banged up than Pool, coming off of knee surgery. I wouldn't consider him a solution. With a healthy Pool, the Jets don't need safety help with Pool, Leonhard, Smith, and Iggy.

I thought it was common knowledge that Ducasse was going to be alot of raw talent that they needed to mold. Pretty sure noone is shocked on the Jets that he's not ready to start out of the gates. Next year will be a different story.
