I think signing A. Thomas is a low risk/ medium upside move. With Pace out, there's no reason not to get the guy for the vets min. If anything, we can cut him after Pace gets back.

No harm in signing him. Pay him veteran mininum and see what happens. I think he will play like a JET.. It's a good idea.

Yes Westerman has shown some promise and I think he has a huge upside. He is young and knows the defense. Give the kid playing time and lets him rack up valuable experience.

Does he play for the minimum? If I'm AT I sit around until a playoff contender offers me a bigger contract than that.

He has been waiting all offseason and still isn't on a team. He better not be asking for a lot of money

I'm ok with AT on the roster... he can play ILB too and that's good since our backups there suck...

Cummings and Westermann are good backup ILBs. Thru both have a nose for the ball and if Scott and Harris weren't so good we'd see them more. What a nice luxury to have.

yeah it seems almost certain Thomas will be signed in the next few days. Which will help immensely since he and taylor are exact opposites. Taylor can still go after the QB, but can't hold at the point of attack for shit, Thomas on the other hand, can't pass rush any better than his counterpart Bryan, but like BT, he can hold his own in sun support.

Westerman is counted as an OLB although I guess he could play ILB too...

Again, there simply is no reason not to take a shot at him for the veterans minimum.

Has anyone heard anything at all on Jason Lamb? He plays DE, but I haven't heard 1 word, negative or positive.

There is no reason to NOT sign Thomas at this point.

This is more clear on the reason to sign AT after week 1:

Free agent OLB Adalius Thomas says the Jets may be interested in him -- but not until after the first game of the season.

Calvin Pace's foot injury could speed up the process, but the Jets likely don't want to guarantee Thomas' salary for the entire season. By waiting until Week 2, they can cut him at any time and only owe the guaranteed money.

    Backing up ^^^^

@RichCimini Adalius Thomas tells SI's Peter King the #Jets want him to sign after W1, when $ isn't gtd. Rex Ryan says he wants AT now. Confused?

I think the Jets are going to wait until after Pace's surgery today.
