I vote we use McKnight but ensure he plays as a returner in the next two preseason games. Otherwise he might shit the bed against the Ravens.
Pretty much this. We have LT to catch passes out of the backfield and we have enough WRs on the roster to find a decent Slot WR for the first 4 games. McKnight's struggling with the offense so ST is going to be the best chance he has to see the field. If it comes down to taking reps off of Greene and LT, then I think it's more likely that Conner gets the call instead of McKnight, as it stands right now.
I disagree with the notion that the PR needs to be someone expendable. Can't discount field position, and maintaining posession. Many teams use elite players at this position for that same reason. Is Kyle Wilson less expendable than Deon Sanders was?
Did someone really not know who Jason Sehorn is, or was that a joke? Anyway, it should be Larry Taylor.
I havent seen enough from Larry Taylor for me to be jumping up and down about him returning the punts. I have some food for thought, what about David Clowney doing the PR. He has some very elusive speed and quickness for the job...
i agree with that sentiment, you put your best players in a position to make plays. If putting Wilson back to return punts is the best way to allow him to make a play for us, let him do it. You can't run scared of injuries, the guys could trip getting off the team bus and bust an ankle. You give yourself the best chance to win each game you are playing right then and there, then you worry about next week.
unless wilson shows he's an elite talent at pr, then his best chance to make plays is as our #2 cb. yes, anyone can get injured on any day. that doesn't mean you should increase the chance of injury to an important player because hey, he could get hurt crossing the street. it's the complete opposite. you want to reduce the chance of injury because there's such a risk of getting injured playing football. if kyle wilson is an absolute beast as a punt returner, then maybe. but if he's only a slight upgrade over leonhard, i'd rather not have him back there. i don't want to increase the chance of seeing lowery and coleman on the field.
Why ? He's a solid returner. He doesn't have the speed but he never muffs the ball and always gets solid yardage after the return. Better then some rookie fumbling the ball 6-7 times.
What about Allison? This guy was doing a great job last preseason returning kicks and got hurt in game 3 or 4----is he still hurt as I saw him dressed but I have not seen him play yet. This guy was doing a hell of a job before going down---anyone have any info?
Tell that to Rex Ryan, who all but announced that Westhoff was dreaming if he thought he was going to get Cromartie on KOR duty for anything other than a desperate situation. I understand what you are saying, but it's not realistic.
