Ok guys, its the dead of summer and not much else going on. But I heard today on ESPN that Thomas Jones is not participating in Voluntary workouts at Bears camp and that Cedric Benson is and looking good. They say Benson might be inching toward having the starting job and this isn't helping Jones. Lovie Smith wants a first for Jones, but I can see them taking less with Benson being the 4th overall next year and them really wanting to make him "the man" Very hypothetical, but the guy is apparently on the block. Howe high would you go? Do we make the call and offer one of our 2 2nd rounders next year? Is that way too high? Jones history hasn't been the greatest but he had a breakout season last year......again, I know what we have on our roster etc. etc. but its an interesting thought. I'd offer a 3rd but I'd be hesitent about a 2nd. Thoughts?
Keep in mind the market in trades for running backs is much much lower than one would expect. I wouldn't give anything more than a 4th round pick. I have never been a big fan of Thomas Jones anyway though.
And I don't think they will have Blaylock and Jones and Martin all on the roster together. I watched Jones in Chicago all this year and he was very good. Question is can he stay on the field? I'd give a 3 and maybe a 5 or 6
well considering edgerrin james and shaun alexander werent even traded for a 2nd round pick a year ago, i dont think we would give up anything close to that, especially with our clear thinking front office.. maybe during bradway's time, we would give up a 2nd but not now... if we were interested, and thats a big if considering we have so many RBs on the roster now, i dont think we would give up anything more than a 4th rounder for jones..
If you heard Clayton, he said, that the Bears want nothing more than a 1st round pick for Jones. Anyway, I wouldn't go after Jones. We have too many RBs as it is.
i would trade blaylock and a 3rd or 4th rounder. this is no deadbeat backup... this guy had 1,335 yards last year.
Not in a million years. He wants his big pay day w/o proving he can be a workhouse back for his team. We have guys I'm looking forward to seeing develop. Of course having some name recognize excites some folks around here, but at the end of the day it's a pretty bad idea.
I'd trade the Redskins second plus Blaylock for him, we'd have to include a RB or either Houston or Washington wouldn't make the team. Jones is definetly an upgrade over what we have now though.
I think if Blaylock didnt get hurt last year and he played is much as Jones he could have had the same amount of yards and be just as good as Jones or maybe even better.
Agree, you can take that #2 pick and package it with another pick to move into the first round to draft a RB next year. This year, for example, that strategy could have landed you Lendale White.
I'd give the second of our two likely seconds for him. He's a serviceable runningback with some upside. That's a significantly better runningback than the Jets have available at the moment.
A first round pick for Thomas Jones is asinine. Hes a nice player, Id love to pick him up, but your talking about a guy, once the seventh pick in the draft, whos bounced around the league his entire career without any sort of sustained record of success. Id do a third round pick, and Id be thrilled to add Jones to the roster. But theres no way Id go higher than that.
