After going through all the offseason write ups about the Jets aquisitions this year, I particarly found that there was this huge negative response directed at our offseason pickups, with the exception of maybe Santonio Holmes. I for one think that they all are amazing pickups and will bring much more to the core players than estimated. From what you've seen/heard in training camp and the 1st preseason game so far, who do you think is going to prove to the rest of the NFL that Tanny is a genius?

    In truth Cromartie.

His dominance totally undercuts Revis' bargaining position, but that is far to esoteric for NY Sportswriters...even when Rex is all but saying it on national TV.

    So by default, Tomlinson.

Antonio Cromartie is a no-brainer here. He was relatively cheap to acquire and fills a gaping hole in the secondary in Darrelle Revis absence. However the Revis thing turns out I think the NFL will have a very high opinion of the addition of Cromartie (and Wilson via the draft.)

No one hates on Brodney Pool because most people don't even know who he is..

Yeah but in LT and Taylors case, if they were to perform well, it would be more of a shock to those who think they're both done.

They might not hate Pool, but we got rid of the overrated Rhodes for him, who is still thought of as a good safety. Some think the Jets have downgraded there.

As I said...you'd be counting on the naysayers to be sophisticated enough to actually grasp that argument.

If they were.....Fatizzaro, Cimini, and even Mehta would be writing about that now

You have to think that given the structure of Mevi$ deal the signing of Cromartie and the draft of Wilson were at least in part with a nod to this situation.

yes, but in their cases, theyre the least likely to outperform; statistically how many RBs over 30 and LBs over 35 kill it?

Yes I agree but none of them were named LT or Taylor, if anyone could do it at those positions these 2 were 2 of the best ever so they have a chance. Like Brett Favre, how many QBs do you expect to have an impact over 38. It doesnt happen alot for there to be statistical evidence

I voted for Tomlinson. There have been tons of people outside of TGG who believe the guy will be awful this year. Awful as in Franco Harris-Seahawks, Shaun Alexander-Redskins, Edgerrin James-Seahawks awful.
I think Tomlinson is going to be useful this year. Maybe he only averages 3.7 yards per rush and only gets 100-150 carries, but I think he will be very useful on 3rd downs whether it be in blitz pickup or as a receiver on screens.

well i cant disagree with what you say here. so what kind of #s do we need to see from LT to quiet the naysayers? 1000yds and 5yds/carry? and 10 sacks from JT?

edit: going to revise this and say 4yds/carry, 4rec/gm, or 500yds rushing would be a great success in my book (as a 3rd down guy)

I really think L.T. or Cromartie.

Taylor may make a play here and there, but both LT and Cro are in a position to make big plays on a weekly basis.

Ya I like the 8-10 sacks for Jason. For LT I would have to say like 3.8 and around 650+ rushing and 500+ recieveing. Hes going to be an awesome 3DB like someone mentioned above. He can block and he can catch. Thats where hes going to help us the most.

Check out Lenny Moore's 1964 season. It was his 9th season. He was thought to be washed up prior to that season. He then proceeded to put up these numbers and be named to the All-NFL (All-Pro) teams-

    rushing- 157 att, 584 yds, 3.7 avg, 16 touchdowns
    receiving- 21 rec, 472 yds, 22.5 avg, 3 touchdowns

I think Tomlinson will score at least 10 touchdowns this year, but I don't envision him gaining 1000 yards on the ground. He might only be in the 400-700 range.

I think LT is going to get anywhere from 700-1100 yards on the ground and 30-50 catches as a safety outlet and I would say 5+ Td's.

With all those stats he still will not be near as important as Cromartie and/or Wilson.

Hasn't everyone pretty much been saying that Cro should return to form in this defense?

    I voted LT

The problem with the poll question is that I don't understand the Cromartie hatred. Are there actually smart football fans out there who think Cromartie will be a bust with the Jets? Or this the hatred just a jealousy issue coming from virgins?
The only knock on Cromartie as a cornerback is that he doesn't like to tackle just like another famous cornerback from FSU. Cromartie didn't like to tackle in 2007 and he was an All-NFL selection that year. Therefore, his tackling shyness can't be the reason for the hatred.
