I think Mangini in 06 was the best that I have seen, but Rex and Herm won playoff games, so those are good also. Not to mention the turnaround in the Jets defense this past season.

Whilst technically true, I think this is a little over-simplistic in terms of analysis.

Not really. Chad is a winner, his problem has always been staying healthy and in 2005 he wasn't and we played most of the year w/ a 4th string starting QB- Vince Lombardi wasn't winning w/ that team but in '06 Chad was healthy as was our team and we made some good moves in the offseason including a draft that broug us our C, LT and an all purpose threat in Leon.

Of course you may feel that Mangini deserves credit for keeping Chad healthy? I seem to remember he had some interesting theories on injury prevention.

Gotta go with 1997. Parcells took a 1-15 team and ALMOST brought them to the playoffs.

I think it was luck of the draw w/ Chad. There's nothing you can do when a guy tears a rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.

Crap Coach is right, also we lost the last 7 games he coached with the Eagles in 94 before the Jets hired him, giving him a 2-1/2 year coaching record of 4-35. Impressive

1999 was the first year that came to mind for me. Being able to turn a team with Ray Lucas as QB into a very competitive one is pretty impressive. You could also argue that it was his worst year as a GM, going into the season without a legitimate backup QB.

Hands down it has to be 1997. Parcells completely changed the culture of the team and the fans. I tend the block the 10+ years before he arrived from my brain.

I also think Parcells did a better job in 99 than in 97, whoever else said that. Part of the problem with giving Parcells ALL the credit for the improvement over 96 in 97 was that Kotite was a negative presence. He was that bad. I firmly believe that ANY new HC in 97 other than Kotite himself would have done better than the 96 team. Kotite was that bad.

Now, I remember being absolutely thrilled Parcells replaced Kotite, and loved Bill's three years here. But I also think it a bit much to give Parcells all that credit.

Regarding Michaels, who got my vote for 81, yeah it's true that 81 came after two so so and one bad season with him as HC. But the Jets had Qb problems, until Todd finally played a healthy and productive season in 81. I look at it this way - Michaels stuck with the job and finally got it done. It was his team, and he built it, and although it took time in that one year he did get great results.

Since the standard is one season, (and particularly with 99 not in the selections) I think Michaels deserves the vote.

Well, I sure didn't......Coslet's teams all had the same problem...a glass jaw. If he got worked up on the sideline over a bad break - so did the entire team. How many 4th quarter leads did they blow under his watch? I understand he took over a major rebuilding effort in 1990 but I didn't like his philosophy. Kind of an odd guy....I just never liked him.

IMO the most underrated coach in Jets history was Walt Michaels - who did a hell of a job taking over a bigger mess (circa 1976-77) and the media took a disliking to him because of his rumored drinking problems......

If Rex Ryan heard you say that, he would smile in a way that would make you happy inside, and he would clap you on the back and call you Miamifuck.
