Obviously take this with a grain of salt for now....but next offseason hey hey.... But still pretty sweet I must sayyy
its been posted in other threads, but it is pretty cool. This is the new culture, this is what I've wanted for years. A team that's not afraid of anyone, because the Namath and Jerry Philbin years were just like this... without the media crawling over everything. Its about time we got back to who we used to be.
Next offseason we'll have trouble signing our own guys: Nick Mangold David Harris Antonio Cromartie Braylon Edwards Santonio Holmes
Keep these two no matter what. Mangold is a good center and Harris is a good linebacker they both have earned their stripes as Jets.
Good is an understatement if you ask me, I'd say they're both elite at their position. Then again I can be looking at them with rose-tinted glasses.
Me too. But its going to be very, very difficult. I can see a lot of guys being cut if they are all kept just to free up salary. The Jets are going to have to sign more FAs that are JAGs and role players if they want that to happen.
I'm wondering if the Jets are able to deplete their secondary and rework a contract or two to free up space for cromartie. Rex needs his corners in this system. Revis, Cro, and Wilson would be a trio that would destroy passing attacks. Not to mention two of those CBs like to hit. Cro might like to hit too, but we'll see when gametime comes.
based on the cap/no cap and the immense salaries these high profile players are going to demand. If they play to their potential, we have 2 WRs in the top 4-10 and a CB in the top 5. They will demand large dollars. Not to mention a top 5 ILB in Harris and the best Center in the game in Mangold.
I would love to keep all 3, especially since we just gave up a high draft pick for Cromartie. I hate using draft picks for 1-year rentals. However, I don't think reworking a contract in the secondary is going to help retain Cromartie: -Brodney Pool is on a 1-year deal -Jim Leonhard has a relatively low salary -Eric Smith is an RFA this season -Drew Coleman, Lowery, Warren, etc don't make more than $1million a season. I know WSW mentioned this awhile back, but I would not be opposed to extending Cromartie right now, as long as the Jets FO sees what they like in camp. His value will probably never be lower than it is now. Of course, we have to consider how this would probably piss off Mangold and Harris. EDIT: Jenkins, Ellis, and Woody are probably all goners after this season.
Cro gets extended after Revis, but its possible. My thought process right now is that if the Jets retain all of these players, there is going to be a cap crunch, thus putting the roster in a massive overhaul.
Mangold is good? Dude, he's the best center in the NFL. And Harris is a GREAT linebacker. GREAT! These are two players who MUST return. They are part of the fantastic nucleus that makes up this team. I want both to be Jets for life.
Nice to see, but it is ridiculous. Come on, players calling their agents saying "get me on that team" I don't think so. Schefter tweeted that as a joke, though it is flattering.
If you can't bring them all back then you look for more good players in the last year of their contracts to pick up or trade for. That's how they got to where they are now and it will work for awhile more. Course there probably won't be football next year so it doesn't much matter.
