I'm a big big fan of pitching, so I'm interested in who you guys would vote for the Cy Young at this point? I'd go with Ubaldo Jimenez at this point for NL... Ubaldo Jimenez 15-1, 2.38 ERA, 3 CG, 2 SHO, 37 runs on 93 hits and 118 K's Josh Johnson 10-3, 1.61 ERA, 1 CG, 0 SHO, 24 runs on 101 hits and 141 K's They both make great arguments, and I'm sure Jimenez having an average run support of 5.5 compared to 4.6 for Johnson helps, it dosen't make up for the the SHO and CG Jimenez has. On the AL side it's alot tougher, as no one has really blown us away... Cliff Lee is my vote, but Jon Lester has been very good as well. Jon Lester 11-4, 2.81 ERA, 2 CG, 0 SHO, 42 runs on 96 hits and 130 K's Cliff Lee 9-4, 2.56 ERA, 6 CG, 1 SHO, 37 runs on 112 hits and 101 K's
NL: Ubaldo Jimenez but you could flip a coin between him and Josh Johnson. I appreciate how Jimenez is doing what he's doing while pitching @Coors half the time. AL: Cliff Lee. Guy is outstanding... I think he's had two, maybe three, non-quality starts all season? He's also carrying my fantasy squad haha.
It'll be interesting to see if Lee carries on his success of late in the Rangers park. His numbers over his career there aren't good at all.
I'm a Twins fan, and I don't even think Liriano deserves the Cy Young (or to be even in the discussion, for that matter). He's been too inconsistent this season. If anybody on the Twins pitching staff deserves the Cy Young, it's Carl Pavano.
Liriano is not even in the discussion for a Cy Young. 11-7, 3.26, 0CG and 53 runs dosen't make a Cy Young. Sure, he's only allowed 2 dingers, but he's been inconsistant and not unhittable, not by any stretch. 138 hits! Get that shit outta here.
no way Liriano can be ahead of Lee or Price. Wainwright is absolutely in the discussion now. He just missed last year, and I fear the same thing will happen this year.
to me, it's Felix Hernandez and Roy Halladay, but Price will probably get it in the AL. I'd put Wainwright second in the NL and in the AL I'd put Price second and maybe Buchholz third.
Halladay in the NL. I think they'll give it to Felix in the AL. He's just been so dominant in every category besides wins. A 12-12 Cy Young winner would be nuts, though. The anti-statistics, only-wins-matter, over-70 crowd would be up in arms.
First off, to say the anti-Felix argument boils down to "only wins matter" is a discredit to guys like Price, Sabathia, and others. No, it does not boil down to "only wins matter" to anyone. It's that wins do matter in addition to the statistics. Especially when they're meaningful wins. When was Felix's last meaningful win? He gets no run support and on a contender he'd probably (but that's nothing more than a guess) be a 24-game winner and runaway Cy Young winner. But he's not on a contender. Just because someone doesn't accept numbers developed by math nerds as the be-all-end-all of the argument doesn't make that person "anti-statistics" or "over-70." Price should be the AL Cy Young winner.
