People have very short memories, they quickly forget how good a player was for us if he has a bad year whether it's due to injuries or not so whether it would be a Vilam or not it doesn't matter.
Hell even without a broken leg negative comments have been popping up regarding Vilma. I can remember reading more than once something to the effect of "He makes all of his tackles 5-6 yds beyond the line of scrimmage". People who have nothing but negative things to say about the team they root for *cough* rajensen *cough* remind me of Randy Quaid from the Major League movie line. On the flip side however - McCareins, Pennington and Martin along with EVERYBODY else on the team have something to prove as far as I'm concerned. After all of the negativity of last season I am giving everybody a clean slate. Nobody is better than the next man till they show me something on the field.
I agree with the premise of Martin&TheJets' point because I know the real issue he has is the same as mine: Curtis Martin, and the lack of respect he gets on this board for playing with a banged-up knee behind a bad O-line one season after he led the league in rushing yards. It's astounding to read comments about "the sooner we put Martin in our rear-view mirror, the better the Jets will be" as if a football team must be as youth-focused as Menudo in order to contend. I think having seasoned veterans on a club, like Martin, Ray Mickens, Wayne Chrebet, Mo Lewis, etc, is an investment any team is well-off making. Chad Pennington has tons of heart, but his injuries are clearly catching up with him. I think there is reason to be dubious of his ability to contribute to the Jets, but given all that he has given us in the past, I think he's worth one more chance. JMac is a poor WR, and I wish the Jets would give someone new a chance. JMac had his, and we were 4-12 in large part because of him. Blaylock didn't really have a chance in 2005, and while I'm not high on him, he is a vet and a needed backup with experience given the fact CMart is coming off an injury.
Broken bones are completely diff. from torn rotator cuff and the like. QB's throw. Twice torn cuffs WILL effect that. RB's cut. Broken ankles probably will effect that. If Vilma tore an ACL or something it would effect him eventually. Maybe a few years down the road but it would catch up. I shredded my knee. I didn't have the rehab that NFL players have the luxury of having but as I have gotten older I can tell you some days are horendous. Actually, my good leg hurts more most days due to the over compensation I've had to do over the years. Injuries are related to the position a player plays not just that they were injured and certainly have bearing when the same injury happens to the same spot, ala CHAD.
Blaylock is alright, but he will probably be cut eventually not this year but most likely next year.Jmac is an alright #2 but i would much rather see him as 3 and hopefully Cotchery can step up or we draft a wr next year.Barett should be the nickel , i like him but he gets beat too much.
There is a difference between seasoned and burnt. Chrebet was done two years ago and was seriously injured and was an over paid dissaster waiting to happen last year. He was lucky he wasn't permenately injured. Mo and Marvin hung on a year to long and now Martin at 33 is still our best option at RB in a year that is clearly a time to move on and rebuild. Football is a young mans game, there is a point where experience and talent peak and than raw talent starts to decline and no amount of experience can get you through it, especially in a violently dangerous sport like Football. As far as injuries they happen and an injured player is worse than the worst player you can suit up on Sunday because they can't do it. It's not their fault, it's just the way it is.
i agree with your main idea martin except in the case of jmac....i think he just plain sucks sucks sucks....i hope im wrong, but im pretty confident ill be on this board come ohh october saying that he indeed sucks....someone please mark me down as a GIANT ANTI-JMAC GUY....and if he does anything this year with his poor pattern running, pooor body control and alligator arms ill be happy to wear a giant egg on my face....rest in peace softee....your pineapple shakes were D-licious
 You notice my Avatar is from Goldfinger circa 64. While Connery has the experience, I'm not sure he can still produce in the field. In my opinion he should have his number retired.
AGREED..... Justin McCareins is a guy who's working his tail off to improve his game - If he stays healthy and gets just decent QB play he will be a real good #2.
Ithink you may have over estimated by a bit the amount of Penny jerseys owned . I for one do not have one. Besides my JWN one the only other NYJ jersey I have is WC. NY Junc I know has a Moss jersey so there is another one without a Penny jersey QUOTE=Sundayjack]Are you kidding?! I'll bet there are 2500 Pennington jersey owners on this board. People here have invested their money and every ounce of enthusiasm on the guy, with a very limited resume of success. I think most people around here are supportive, but not willing to bet the family farm of "one more chance," when his history is so sketchy.[/QUOTE]
