That doesn't seem like a very well informed article. No mention of Cromarties broken hip in '08, no mention of the change in defensive schemes when Cotrell left and how he's back in a man/pressure scheme like '07. No mention of how Revis was the 3rd most targeted CB last season. That's just off the top of my head.

I didn't know Serbe ghost writes for a Boston paper. That mess was full of cliches and not funny fat jokes. I guess he has to dumb it down sufficiently for his audience, afterall it is Boston....lol

its like he didnt want to show the amazed look on his face

I'd like to add that the editing of the article left something to be desired.

Many of the articles on that site are much more opinion than reporting.

It is either a fan site or a very poorly operation.

All that said, it is hard to argue with his conclusions.

Depending how Rex and the rest of the coaching staff really feel about Cromartie, it might be a good idea to sign him to a new contract now rather than see him have a great year in this defense and have the price on him skyrocket. He's definitely the type of corner who could be elite on this defense.

Imagine having Revis, Cromartie, and Wilson locked up in our secondary for the next 5 years? A little Dline help and this defense could be one of the all-time greats for years to come.

I really think Wilson could be a major contributor even at the nickel spot. He's fast and a hard hitter so he'd be great on blitzes, plus I could see him excelling at jumping those quick slant routes and sticking to slot receivers. Keeping him at the nickel would also probably keep his price down when it's time to resign him and he is entering his prime.

I'm hesitant to jump on the Cromartie bandwagon early, but I think if they can even sign him to a 3 year contract for like 6 mil a year, it might be worth it. Obviously you need to take care of Revis before this happens though.

You're definitely on to something...But I will saw if the Jets extend Cromartie who hasn't played a down for this team, before Harris, Mangold, and Revis all hell will break loose.

The Jets aren't going to extend Cromartie's contract a month after they restructured it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but they restructured it by paying him half the money up front due to financial needs. Maybe there is something I don't know but if that's the case I wouldn't quite call that restructuring...

I don't think they will extend him either but thought his idea was interesting

It's actually the textbook definition for restructuring, although they did it for the player's benefit mainly instead of a mutual benefit for both the player and the team. In the past, they restructured Curtis Martin's extisting contract and gave him more and more guaranteed money to give the team cap relief to sign other players in future years by moving the money into the current year.

But regardless, I think that if they were going to extend Cromartie, they would at least wait until the core 4 are re-signed. I think they are going to allow Cro and Holmes and Braylon to play their hearts out for a sniff of a new contract.

I thought the same thing about signing him now, but Br4dw4y5ux gave me a good reason why that won't happen.

I guess when I think of restructuring, I think of pay cut, more guareteed money, or more incentive...Not paying a guy more of his guarenteed money due up front..

Although I do see your point...If they paid him this money already to extend him would mean they paid $500,000 more than the had to

I'm not so sure about that argument though. With the uncertainty of the labor situation and the general uncertainty of injuries in the NFL, players in the last year of their contracts have pretty good incentive to try and get an extension right now. I think more guaranteed money and/or signing bonuses would be pretty enticing for a guy like Cromartie.

All that being said, I'd obviously prefer they lock up Revis, Mangold, and Harris first. I just think there is a chance the price might be right for Cro right now. I'd be surprised if they were able to work something out, but it's nice to dream about them getting him on the cheap.

Rex's comments today, "We're just happy that Cromartie is actually getting better... so he is trying to do it our way. He doesn't have the know it all mentality. He's going out there and knows that Dennis Thurman is a great coach and he is leaning on him. And the is exciting to me."

Whatever could Rex be talking about?
