I should clarify this isn't my personal opinion in terms of me thinking he'd be the next Chrebet, but rather the fanbase would treat him as another Chrebet.

Jets fans love tiny white football players who give it their all and have so much heart while being so kind to all... Danny Woodhead will be missed by many when he is cut this year. And if Wes Welker was a Jet, don't even get me started.

I don't think thats a pure Jet stance, I think thats a white America view.

Nevertheless I completely agree with you. Rudy-Concept.

Coles was a warrior for the Jets, I'm not sure how anyone could be against this. He will get the vet minimum and even at his advanced age is an upgrade over the Clown in the slot the first 4 games and the 4th WR after.

If Clowney beats him out, more power to him but it is pretty clear the CS has no faith that he will, hence bringing in Coles. This is a no lose situation. Welcome home LC.. again!

I am not sure why people are against this. If anything, he is a veteran stop gap until Holmes returns.

What are you talking about? Curtis Martin is one of the All time most loved Jets and is not white. I think Jets fans love "football players who give it their all and have so much heart while being so kind to all"

Exactly, and is Leon Washington white? How about Cotchery? Is one the most loved current Jets, Kris Jenkins, a tiny white guy?

I think what the poster should have said is fans love the underdog and root for him to make the team. But instead started race baiting instead.

I don't know that skin tone has anything to do with it, so much as guys coming up through the ranks and then being consistent contributors for us. Chrebet certainly implanted the profile in our minds, so for some, him being white may subconsciously be a trait they look for. For me, him being white has nothing to do with it. I'm rooting hard for guys like DeVito and Westerman, just as I did for Woodhead before he showed dud in the little bit of game time he got last season.

Favorite movie. Ah, I can hear the chants now...

As long as he knows his role, and that he will basically disappear from the offense in week 5, I don't see a problem with this. If he wants to be a complainer who is the "anonymous source" always saying crap to the media, then they should cut him immediately.

Bingo. Guys like Al Toon, Wesley Walker, Freeman McNeil and Shaun Ellis are also all beloved Jets! Race has nothing to do with it.

ETA - Coles was also one of my favorite players as well. I loved how tough he was

I don't see how skin color has anything to do with it either. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. As for Coles signing here, I'd love it. The more weapons in the stable for Sanchez in year 2, the better and Coles would be comfortable here. Vet minimum or something slightly north of it and let defenses try shutting us down. This year seems like an "all-in" kind of year for the Jets, so why not add one more piece if the salary and desire are there for both sides.

Yeah, when you look at some of the older vets we have signed this off-season in key positions, its obvious we are pulling all the stops out. But they have done it in a very smart manner so that if this quest succeeds or fails this year, we can change a few pieces and do it again next year.

As others have noted, I agree the only way to understand bringing Coles back is that the FO does not have faith in Clowney. Time for all who tout him highly to acknowledge that fact.

Now if Clowney beats out Coles, so be it, and it really is up to Clowney. Coles is declining, so if Clowney can't do that, says it all.

Week 5 - that's when Holmes comes back, so Coles will lose playing time.

    Daily News...Week 5...

"An anonymous locker room source said he questions the organizations loyalty and commitment, "I don't know...I mean I figured they brought me here cause they wanted me to help them win. I can't do that from the bench."

Coles and Mawae both took heat for the anonymous locker room sources. But the anonymous guy didn't go away when those guys left. He is still in New York and his name is Rich Cimini.

I worry that his skills have dropped off to the extent that if he is pressed into heavy duty he will not be up for it. That should be evident if Clowny beats him out! Personally, I like Clowny's chances even though I will be routing for Coles.

So in essence this is a move to push Clowny.

Coles will be ready and up for it. The guy sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber for Christ's sake.
