http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/09000d5d81940e8d/Best-in-the-Biz-Players I bet Revis loves this video. Brian Baldinge top five players in the NFL. 1. Darrelle Revis. 2. Peyton Manning. 3. Chris Johnson 4. Drew Brees. 5. Haloti Ngata
Revis DEFINITELY deserves to be in the conversation and is the best corner in the league bar none, but how can you list him above Manning after the 2nd half of that AFC Championship?
I think Peyton Manning is a better football player than Darrelle Revis, but Manning 'figured' out the defense by throwing to 4th and 5th string cornerbacks. Strickland going down changed the entire game.
Manning was indeed straight up rediculous last year. He embarrassed our D in only 15 minutes, it took everybody else the usual 30 to make us look that bad
My entire top 5 would consist of QBs. They touch the ball every down, and ultimately affect the game more than any other position. I couldn't rank a CB as the best overall player in the NFL no matter how good he is. Peyton Manning is the #1 player in the NFL.
I think he is one of the best NFL players, hard call though...LOTS of great players in the NFL. Difficult to define the actual "best" lots of things such as the position they play go into their effectiveness.
Not even gonna watch the video to see how he justifies this nonsense... doesn't deserve any traffic. Revis is my favorite football player and I'd be hard pressed to even put him in the top 5.
Yea Manning embarrased the number one defense, but Revis embarrassed tons of number on recievers. both accomplishments are great. Idk, NFL shouldnt have a best player, because in reality its comparing apples to oranges. Football is technically 2 difference games, defense and offense. whatever who cares.
It isn't just that it's too much debate, it's that the debate doesn't make terribly much sense. You might as well add Kobe and Tiger Woods and ask who's better. What does that even mean? I've really been shocked at the tremendous credit people are giving Revis after only one real All-Pro season. He's been good since he's been in the league, but nothing like this last year. I woulda thought people would want to see another year or two before they'd start making these sorts of statements, but I guess not. Personally, I'll give him best corner in the league for sure, and his ability to get turnovers while never getting thrown at puts him over the top for me as best defensive player. But best overall? Nothing in the game of football is more impressive to watch or impossible to stop than Peyton Manning on a good day.
The reason why Revis is listed so high on these lists is because many consider him by far the best CB in the league. He had one of the best seasons for a CB in the history of the game (ONE of the best, not THE best). Many people consider Peyton Manning the best QB in the league, but he isn't by far the best in the league. I don't agree whatsoever listing Revis in the top 5 "most important" or "most valuable" players in the league, but he might be top 5 in the "best players" list, if that makes sense.
He's a top 5 player. He changed the way this defense is able to play and he changes the way passing games are constructed against this defense. No other defensive player does that. Therefore, he's in the top 5.
offensive players vs defensive players is a completely different thing. they shouldn't be judged in the same groups. if every team started over with no players and there was a draft the 1st pick would be peyton manning. the elite Qb's would then follow. revis would probably be the #1 defensive player picked although it depends on the defensive scheme that team plays.
true. you would NEVER have Revis play zone. It defeats the purpose of him existing on a football field.
Great now he has more leverage to ask for more money Seriously though, him and Manning ARE the best in the game. They deserve 1 and 2.
No way is Darrelle Revis the best player in the NFL, you could argue and not even in the top 3 ... [No Particular Order] Peyton Manning Drew Brees Patrick Willis All are better then Revis IMO, Revis has had multiple good seasons so far as a Jet, but he needs to build on his 2009 success if he wants to be the best player in the NFL, Peyton Manning has been consistent for years now, he's put together some amazing years, Revis needs to do the same
I really like the list! Not cause Revis was on the top (I would probably have Peyton as number one), but because Baldinger picked the guys he honestly believed were the best - not the most valuable or most popular or controversial to get ratings. You don't see that very often, and Ngata was a great pick.
Revis is our Tom Brady. Seriously. Manning needs a good OL and a good receiving corp to look and to be good or else he loses 41-0 to the jets and gets so flustered he lines up under left gaurd. Manning needs the opponents to be weak/injured for him to look good. Revis needs his opponent to be amoungst the best atheats in the world. Heck manning had more interceptions last year than revis had passes allowed. There's ligit arguments as to who the best QB is. There is no such chatter as to who the best DB is. Sure, a top QB is more valuable in terms of wins/loses, but Revis is the top athlete in the NFL playing a position that sometimes but not 'always' determine who wins the game.
I think Brian Baldinger grew up a Jets fan. He grew up in NY and NJ and he said the other night that Joe Namath was his all-time favorite NFL player. And it makes sense, since he almost comes off as a homer when rating the Jets and their players. Not that I hate hearing it, but I think Jamie Dukes is far more objective.
