Dickey is being pulled? Unless he's hurt (of which there is no evidence), this doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Apparently he had his chest and back wrapped in ice before the game, and winced on a swing in an at bat in the 5th inning, so the speculation is that he has some kind of core muscle issue. He's been playing great, so losing him would definitely be a blow.
The argument, no doubt, is as Gary mentioned - that this will give Rodriguez some work, since he hadn't pitched since Friday. I'd be more impressed with that argument if he didn't pitch like he is pitching tonight every night - lots of pitches, at least a baserunner or two, etc. Barring a major collapse it won't really hurt the team (although it cost Dickey a chance at a complete game), but it's just another example of how Manuel just can't help getting in his own way. Baseball is complicated enough - you don't have to make it harder for yourself. Game over. Dickey the first Met pitcher to go 6-0 in his first 7 starts as a Met.

I didn't need to go to Baseball Reference to know this; it was obvious just by watching the games. This is what drives me bonkers about Manuel - how can he not know this, when it is blindingly obvious? Why doesn't he pay even the slightest attention to the simplest of statistics, to see that his impressions are just wrong? This entire incident shows why the W-L record of a team is a terrible way to evaluate a manager - on a night where the team played a just about perfect game, we see that Manuel is incapable of handling even the simplest of managerial tasks. That doesn't matter on a night like tonight, but it will on other nights, and on those nights the Mets will come up short because their manager is an idiot.

Thanks for the thumbs up. Unfortunately, there seems to be considerable buzz that the Marlins are going to bring him in, at least for a talk. Once he decided to look back across the Pacific, you had to figure that sooner or later some GM would have the guts to hire him, even though he isn't quite as circumspect as they would like. The success of the Mets this year unfortunately means that Minaya and Manuel probably aren't going anywhere until at least the end of the season, and by then it could easily be too late to get Bobby.
In first place on June 24th? Okay, who had that? Note, btw, that if the Mets win tonight, not only are they leading the NL East, they're tied for best record in the NL.
I heard yesterday on WFAN that it's considered a lock for Bobby V to go to Florida. He even turned down an interview with Baltimore, which indicates he's on the verge of taking the Florida job.
