http://www.dailycomet.com/article/20100620/OPINION01/100619091?Title=NFL-8217-s-best-cornerback-duo people are stupid. Revis and cro are the best duo in the nfl... revis and a bag of dog crap are the best duo in the nfl... and i thought the dolphins had the best duo in the nfl... :jets:
Revis is by far the best corner, but with Cromartie's performances over the last couple of seasons it's not that ridiculous to vote Bengals over them. JoJoseph and Leon Hall are a great, proven duo. If Cromartie plays to his potential then yes there is no way the Jets shouldn't be first, but he hasn't proven himself just yet.
That articles bullshit, Sean Smith and Vontae Davis are without a doubt the best CB duo in the league.
I don't understand what you are so upset about ... Hall and Joseph are a great combo. Revis and Cro haven't even played together yet. What's wrong with this quote about Cromartie? but I am not that excited about Antonio Cromartie. He is very inconsistent, not technically sound and a big time guesser out on the field. There are some good units out there, but I don’t think anyone has the talent and production out on the field that Hall and Joseph had last season.” Cromartie has been inconsistent, but does have the potential to be great
Cromartie played the entire 2008 season with a broken hip and was above average in coverage last season in a low pressure, zone defense that didn't take advantage of his freakish talents. This defensive scheme matches his talent perfectly and I expect a huge year out of him. Even if he plays only as well as he did last year in coverage, we have the best duo in the league. He was available for trade because he's a liability against the run and lacked effort in that department. In a zone defense your corners need to be better against the run. The Jets have the best CB duo in the league, and probably the best CB trio in the league too.
i still think that revis and any other corner in the league automatically make them the best duo because revis takes away half of the field by himself.
Except Hall and Joseph were both in the top of the league in opposing completion percentage last year. Someone get that damn graph again! This article is accurate. Based on recent proven performance, it's Hall and Joseph. Based on potential for this year it's Revis and Cromartie. The Saints have a good group but I don't think they're near the same level of the Jets, either starting or overall.
If you're going to use those numbers the Jets win. That graph was using oppossing QB rating, not completion percentage. Revis 32.3 Hall 51.7 Joseph 64.9 Cromartie 70.9 NYJ Avg: 51.6 CIN Avg: 58.3 Considering that was in a scheme that hardly took advantage of Cromarties skill set, I'd say it's pretty easy to give the Jets the #1 spot over Cinci.
I'd say the potential is there for the Jets most definitely. I'd be interested to see how those percentages changed after Odom went down for Cinci because he was on his way to an MVP-caliber season before going down.
Potential? Based on last years performances, going strictly by those numbers, the Jets have the better duo. Cro put up his number without any type of passrush in SD and playing in a zone scheme. Now he's playing in a pressure/man scheme just like he was in '07 when he killed the league. Again, even if he does only as well as last year we have the best duo - it's hard to imagine he won't do better though. Dwight Lowery put up great #rs in this system for Christs sake. Cro is going to kill it.
Hard to judge with Cromartie injured, and changing to a defensive scheme where Cro couldnt play as well to his 2007 form. In Rex's system Cro will have so much pressure on the QB he will enjoy not having to put as much effort into his game..which I think will get rid of his inconsistent play.
Sadly the passer rating would have to be recalculated from the combined numbers, we can't just average them. I agree that Revis and Cromartie are better, I was just explaining that Hall and Joseph have worked together already and that's why I would expect people to consider them the better tandem for now.
How often are a #1 and #2 corner actually "working together" though? Not much. Maybe the #1 and the nickel or the #2 and the nickel, but your #1 and #2 are generally lined up on opposite sides of the field.
I've seen you explain your point about 100000000times in all these similar articles/forumthreads. You should just write your own article defending your points, and watch how it'll stir up the NFL-Blog-InterWebs.
Yeah I understand this and agree with you, I'm just saying that it's not that absurd to put us at 2nd behind a pretty solid duo that had a good 2009 season. I know Cromartie's issues and think he will return to form, but it's not crazy for a non Jets fan to see the negative side of things and wait for him to prove himself first.
