Yeah, absolutely let him walk. Lets show the rest of the NFL that you can't come to the Jets and expect to get paid.
Well, while its not the way I want to go, 1, 5, and 15 mil for Revis over the next three season would be a good price. The Jets are trying and I hope they get him signed. He is our best player, period.
It's an option the Jets have but it doesn't help keeping players happy and they really don't want to guarantee that $20 million. If Revis skips any of the mandatory team activities he will lose the ability to have the money guaranteed. It's been speculated that the Jets may WANT him to hold out and miss one mandatory activity in order to void the guarantee portion of that.
The 'messages' coming out sound like a cross between the Kendall situation and Leon. Whilst I'm against being held to ransom, Revis is an incredible talent and we need to keep him. Fuck the Raiders, once again.
i suppose the other players on the team are behind revis robbing the bank, but at the same time having one player take all the money HAS to breed some kind of resentment. wait until harris, d'brick, mangold, edwards, cromartie, are told "look, of course you guys are worth a lot more, but all the jack went to revis" if the salary cap was evenly split, each player would get about $2M. so revis getting $16M means there must be 8-10 other players playing for the league minimum.
I don't think we should give any player a contract and just assemble a team of players willing to play for minimum wage. who cares about whether those players are any good, clearly paying players their worth based upon impact on the game isn't what this team should be doing.
Don't worry, you have support. These guys all agree with you, OP. This guy on the ground........ This guy, staring lustfully at his own headgina. "I will find a way to bang you, headtwat", he says. This bitch, ironing.
So let me address some key items you other fans have posted. There is no good faith in business, only contracts and signatures. Contracts are binding or so I guess unless you’re a player. revis might show the FO by holding out and play right into their hands by voiding his own guaranteed money...I hope he does, which would be poor business on his part. They can buy back his last two years and still pay less than half over the next three years than what Revis wants. His contract was to guarantee him more money if he played well; he did and they will have to pay him unless he fails to show for mandatory practices. Let’s see how smart he and his agent really are. The team can franchise Revis afterwards and even with the tag he still won't get as much as he wants...still good business deal for team. The Jets have all the juice and Revis has nothing to negotiate with. So he isn't happy, how many people out there don't want more money, but still go to work? Also, I don't have time to manage a 7-11 since I'm too busy managing a six state region already, but if they would pay the same I would gladly change jobs to avoid traveling. Just saying. Lastly for JetBlue, it should show between 7,000-8000 posts below my avatar, but back in September of 2002 the site has a glitch and I lost credit for a couple years and a bunch of posts. Which would make me twice as long a member and twice the posts as you. Once again, just saying.
1. Nobody cares how many posts you have. 2. Somebody should punch you in the face for starting this thread.
that's even worse. next time, try a quality post. except there is nothing about a contract that forbids a renegotiation as long as both parties agree. but if the Jets were really opposed to him holding out, they can simply cut him as well. clearly they don't want to do that and are interested ni a new deal for him as well, so your argument is still f'ing asinine. the Jets aren't victims in this matter.
Punch in the face, do you talk so intelligent all the time? Unsolicited violence is a sign of a sick mind or a weak one and I'm not going to both to guess.
the fact that you started a thread like this illustrates to the rest of us...that you're incapable of intelligent thought.
Best corner in the league..........thread title: "Should NOT give him (Revis) a new contract." Makes perfect sense. last SB: Lamonica.....Earl Morral (and an over-the-hill Johnny U) today: Brady (divisonal foe), Peyton Manning (AFC)...Brees...(and yes, the other Manning who's got a ring), Matt Ryan, ..and who knows about V.Young...down the road.. OP: the league (like baseball) has gone "offensive-friendly" in terms of trying to put fannies in the seats---"no contact beyone 5-yd. rule" ..... aside a slew of other "things" this isn't the Al Davis (Lester-the-molester; Mike Haynes) world -- the landscape had changed. If it still was THAT world, all the more reason I'd want to hook up Revis long term. And with today's more "cornerback-challenged" no-hands ruling, all the more reason to nab/KEEP a diamond that's ALREADY wearing green. Whatta ya nuts? respectfully, pls. seek professional help. if you recall when U-Pitt Revis was on the board.. the Jets moved UP in the draft to sign the 'Pitt' guy (who's still a 'kid') ..... once drafted, do you NOT recall the one year duration contention of his original contract signing with the Jets?. .... he wanted one year 'less' ... Jets wanted to hook him up for one year more?.... how'd that work out? ... and having said that and factoring in his inpact on the overall defensive scheme of things....(and noting that 'Rex" wasn't on board at the time)....imho, sir, sign him....now.
You seem to forget that regardless of how much a player makes, it is up to him how much he dedicates himself to the game. He cannot be forced to work and study and be 100% about football 100% of the time. He plays a game in which a split second can end his career. It's in the best interest of the player to make as much as he can while he can, and it is in the best interest of the team to ensure that they have the best player in the league at his position for as long as possible and that they do what they can to ensure his dedication to continued improvement throughout that entire period. End of story. Now can you tell me what the Blue Jays need to do to improve their bullpen Mr. Sports Econ?
