2009 NFL Salary Cap: $127 Million Total cap value right now is: $119,841,244 I know it was increased from 2008 to 2009 but it was only increased 4 million. In 2011, even if they add 10 million to make the cap $137 million, as our status is right now we would be 18 million under. If rumors are true that would be just enough to cover a new Revis contract with a couple practice squad additions too. Revis current cap value- $1,915,916 Mangold current cap value- $4,502,500 Brick current cap value- $7,200,000 Harris current cap value- $900,000 This does not even consider 2011 free agents. Unrestricted: Shaun Ellis Nick Mangold Steve Weatherford Brodney Pool Tony Richardson Braylon Edwards Wayne Hunter Restricted David Harris Aundrae Allison Chauncey Washington Robert Turner Jason Davis Brannon Condren Nick Folk Antonio Cromartie Rodrique Wright Lance Laury David Clowney Santonio Holmes Eric Smith Brad Smith James Ihedigbo Drew Coleman Kellen Clemens Exclusive Rights No real impact here, but here they are. Marquice Cole SJ Green Bo Smith TJ Conley Josh Mauga Larry Taylor Dan Gay Danny Woodhead Britt Davis Matt Kroul Ty Steinkuhler Michael Turkovich Robby Felix Marlon Davis I haven't looked at the situation this closely until now, what it comes down to as I have been saying a lot of now is players giving us a discount to play here. There is no way we can keep everyone, as you all know but this makes it look like it really might be 2010 or bust. We haven't inked any deals with our top draft picks yet either. What I'd like to see is our core four back, keep Braylon but since Holmes is restricted that might be more realistic. Do all this while adding youth seems virtually impossible. Shaun Ellis is likely gone after 2010, so that's 3.5 million off the books (WOW). Does anyone have a clue to how this can be done? I know this is why Tanny makes the big bucks, but I just don't see how we can keep these guys together, we would need a substantial Jet discount. When this was discussed I always thought it was a no brainer they would all be Jets for the foreseeable future. Someone help, now I'm depressed!!
As of right now our projected 2011 cap is 98.7 million and there are a few salaries (ghost) that could go away.
At 98.7 million, say we do sign Revis for 17 million, that brings us to 115.7 million. The guesstimate of a 137 million cap would only leave 21.3 million for Kyle Wilson, and new contracts for Mangold, Brick, Harris, and a WR. It just does not seem possible, Sanchez is signed through 2013 and if we really think he's out future he'll be getting a new deal as well.
Since it is not my money! I think tanny needs to front load the key guys this uncapped year. Revis, Mangold, Harris, D-Brick. There has to be a way to get some of these done and worry about the rest later. I just don't see why tanny is stalling. If Revis is doing the stalling start with Mangold and so forth.
A little recap for the Phins 09 season- The Dolphins that today cling to improbable -- almost impossible -- playoff hopes cost owner Stephen Ross $126,855,921 in total 2009 payroll. That figure, which includes bonuses as well as base salaries, is the second-highest total payroll in the NFL this season. Only the New York Giants, who paid $137,638,866, spent more than the Dolphins to put a team on the field in 2009. And if you think nearly $127 million is too much to pay players for a 7-8 season, you're right. The Dolphins didn't get a good return for their astronomical investment. That number includes 2mil for revis and guys that can go for cap savings. Tanny will figure it out. gholston, woody, thomas, tomlinson, taylor can all go
What a jackass, go back to finheaven and cheer on the fins with your boyfriend Salguero. Your teams going 7-9 again this year.
People have to also relize there is alot of waste on this team that will not be here in the future JT,LT, Cromartie, Holmes//Braylon... we will sign all of our core players don't worry. But there's always that chance the find a replacement through 2010-2011 draft for some positions
http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/05/09/salary-cap-update-can-the-jets-extend-everybody/ This will answer your questions about 2011 and signing players.
Ummm...isn't that a good problem to have? Maybe we have much more talent than most other teams? I'd take that situation any day of year.
I think you are being depressed for no real reason. We have Tanny. Relax. That magician can sweeten the deals with out sugar. Here's why I think you should relax: When you look at 2011 salary cap, and talk about our 2010 cap figures, its not going to add up. Our salary cap in 2011 is at $98.7 mil (40 players). That should leave us close to $40 mil to sign our FAs. Lets see who our FAs are that carry a significant salary figure. Shaun Ellis Nick Mangold Brodney Pool Braylon Edwards David Harris (RFA) Antonio Cromartie (RFA) Santonio Holmes (RFA) Eric Smith (RFA) Brad Smith (RFA) Kicker Punter A quick look at them and these 11 players will make about $40-45 mil in 2011 if all signed. That pretty much levels us with the salary cap situation. Of course, we'll sign other players such as Wayne Hunter and others, but salary cap is for the top 51 players. Signing backup will only change salary cap figures by maybe $2mil at most, hardly any difference. Woody can be let go and will save us 3.24 mil. Bryan Thomas also saves 3.25 mil. Hartsock saves 1.65. Jason Taylor saves 2.27. Total saving of about $10 mil. Revis is making $2.5 mil in 2011 as it stands. That $10mil can add in there and his salary is bumped to around $12 mil for the year - neither outrageous, not low balling. Where do we stand in 2011? Perfectly aligned with the $137 mil cap. I told you not to worry. We have Tanny and he knows his shit. We lose no one in 2011 and he'll still make it work.
Wow. NFL salary cap rules make managing the national balance of payments look like balancing your check book.
It's also very possible that, in order to avoid a lockout, we'll see the salary-cap go away for the forseeable future. I'm not freaking out just yet, if anyone can make it work, it's Tanny.
